Have you left Thailand ?

I was hoping to get responses from places like Sri Lanka or maybe India  The main reason for asking is the cost of living in Thailand seems to be rising and the visa procedure can be a headache for some .

Well if i see how low the high season is in Pattaya then i would assume lots of farangs have moved out to elsewhere and they are also no longer following this website so we do not get their story.

Yeah, I'd be interested in how expats are doing in Sri lanka & Nepal & how it compares to here as well,  Just maybe, this Forum isn't the right place to post the question though, are there expat forums for those places?

But if you read the article it says that Viagra lowers blood pressure in men by widening the arteries. Not a problem for healthy men OR for those like me who have had an heart attack but are not taking nitrates or  nitroglycerin for  heart problems. When nitrates and Viagra are taken in combo they lower the blood pressure too much which is the problem.

I made fairly routine work trips to KTM over a 5-6 year period, and a couple "tourist" type diversions and overall, not a place I would want to live. JMO.

You wrote, "If you don't have any of those conditions then there is no need to see a cardiologist as those tests are routine."  My point was everyone over 70 has a reason to go see the doctor every 90 days unless one is in a country where going to the doctor is too expensive or too dangerous.

I prefer the Vietnamese food, especially the availability of good breads, cheeses, beef, coffee and wine. Western-style foods, based on French and Continental cuisine, is common and you can get the meals for you and friends served at the same time. The Vietnamese women are very attractive and not as paunchy as many Thai women--and the Thai piano-stool calves are uncommon.

You said earlier 'examination by a cardiologist'. I was told by one doctor that I should go see a cardiologist after some tests were done. So I went to see the cardiologist at the same hospital. After looking at my records, the cardiologist said: You don't need to see a cardiologist. BTW the tests were done prior to a colonoscopy.

But from one of your earlier posts you said you like Thailand because of access to and cost of medications so you must have some reason to buy medications or you wouldn't be buying medication. And again from my first post all I said is that it is better at age 70+ not to need a cardiologist than to need a cardiologist.

I liked the people for the most part, worked with different castes and varieties, and the cross border Indian passport holders.  Food heavy but good, and that towering Annapurna Range at Pokhara.....very impressive.   

 

Pretty much everything else was in the other column for me.  TBF, country was going through tough political times, just happened to be there when they gave the Royals the boot.  Just never seemed to get organized after that, plus still dealing with the Maoists.  Haven't kept up on anything there in the past 5 years though.

To answer the OP directly yes, I lived in Bangkok for many years.  I decided I wanted to try another Country, but remain in SE Asia.  I visited all the other SE Asian Countries (except East Timor obviously) and discovered the Philippines.

 

It's not perfect - no place is.  But it's quite beautiful.  And English is widely spoken.

Are there any TVF members who have left Thailand and moved to another Asian country ?  If so what were your reasons , was it for the good and any regrets ?

I certainly don't want to spend my last years living in the hell of a rest home wishing I was in LOS with a beautiful lass in my bed.

To attempt to conform to the OPs wishes, I've been to other Asian countries and have no desire to live in countries where I don't have the option of waking up with a beautiful lass in my bed.

This is Thai Visa and a Thai forum.  Why would people who live in other countries be posting on Thai Visa?  Why not discuss the pros and cons of living in Thailand vs another country then the people who live here would have a form of reference to the OP.  I would think the topic, "have you left Thailand" includes why and why not.  Unless this is another Thai bashing thread.  If it is just another Thai bashing thread then I do see your point.

Why would people who live in other countries be posting on Thai Visa?

I'm sure there are some posters who used to live in Thailand (like me), then moved to another country, but still keep in touch with friends and family back in Thailand.

To the OP, I made some rudimentary investigations about long-term retirement visas for India, but it seemed impracticable. But Sri Lanka was much easier for long-term visas, and I seriously considered moving there after Thailand. (Good coffee, nice beaches, unspoilt rural areas and hills, friendly people, English spoken etc).

I stay in Myanmar because I have an enjoyable and reasonably well-paid job, and it's difficult to find new employment in many countries at my age (58 years). Maybe I'll move to Sri Lanka when I retire.

Well, you seem to be set in your ways; why don't you just stay in Thailand. There is no need for the retirement visa hassle as in Thailand, simply $200 a year and endless back to back 3 month visas with a trip out in between--which I do anyway. I like to travel to see friends in SEA, but you could always do a cheapy overland Cambodia or Laos trip, which I would do sometimes when not travelling back to the Philippines or Thailand. I do not do direct deposit of my monies nor do I need the places like Pattaya, or the beer bars and gogo girls. However, there are many available girls, bars and even places like Pattaya--try Vung Tau for starters. And, as I said, the Vietnamese girls are more attractive, to me--and I am the only one who counts.

   Apart from woman, do you have any other interests ?

A woman in your bed is the most important thing, but is there anything that comes second, or is it just woman and thats it ? nothing else ?
