BANGKOK — A major barbecue chain is recalling a shipment of beef Tuesday after a photo appeared online of lumpy meat served at one of its restaurants.

The image posted last night by Facebook user Wilawan Wasuntarasophit was quickly taken up by netizens as proof of parasites at the Central Pinklao branch of Bar B Q Plaza. Though the company denies parasites were present in the meat, it apologizedtoday for an employee’s explanation the lumps were tendons.

The staff said ‘Oh, they’re tendons’ (while making a sheepish face),” she wrote. “Tendons?! If they were really tendons, then why did they change the beef?”"

A sheepish face?  My God, we're discussing prime Australian beef here.  :cowboy:

Actually looks more like pork.

Maybe agree

I thought Auss would of sent it as specific cuts - This looks like the local hacked of stuff

Australian Beef, cut and boxed for the specific client, never had that much fat as shown in the pic..... they must have sourced from a rogue manufacturer...... (maybe cheaper but so much cholesterol would make even the hardest Ocker wince!!)

Australia has very strict laws regarding meat, just by looking at the pics this meat is well below their standards, looks more like scrap meat with all that fat on it and the cuts, have to wonder if its been sourced elsewhere but they are claiming aussie as its top beef. Inspections in Australia would not have allowed this m,eat to be sent, very suss

Great story and absolutely brilliant what is happening in Thailand.  Shoddy operators are more and more being 'exposed' because of Social Media, whereas in the past they got away with so much.

B B Q Plaza is a self-cook place and I have tried a few places over the years - usually OK.  There is no way that she got prime Aussie beef - the local Manager has sub substituted a cheaper cut - probably as he has run out of the good stuff - but also maybe because he is a crook.

From their website: "The management is also well prepared for active competition in the market. For the present organization structure, each branch is supervised by its Branch Manager, while District Manager and General Manager supervises all of them at the upper levels respectively."

Me thinks there will be a few people losing their job soon - starting with that Branch's Manager.  Which is a good thing and needs to happen more here - so that others see and hear and learn.  And in a short period you can bet that only the best quality meat will be served in every single Branch - win/win for the customers.

Elvis, you might want to think about what you are posting. It pretty much meets the definition of defamation.  If someone posts that in Thailand, they could be looking at a decade or more behind bars. Probably not you.  You're probably anonymous enough. So, maybe TVF instead.

Another chain which can't be named for obvious reasons claims to serve Australian beef but it is cheap and clearly anything but. But there do not appear to be any laws here to ensure truthful advertising. And if there are they certainly aren't enforced. no surprise there.

Australia  -  pls send all the Lumpy Aussie Beef to Vietnam - so they can recall all Aussie beef due to parasites...........that way my cows will be worth a lot more, price of prime local beef is less than dog meat now.

NOVEMBER 18 2012

'Skippy meat' scandal became global joke

It started with an eagled-eyed food inspector in San Diego, California on July 27,1981 and almost destroyed the $1 billion a year beef export trade of Australia.

I remember that, later on it was determined the Kangaroo meat was loaded on the wrong ship - McDonalds stock tanked cause the rumor was it was destined to Mickey D's.  Was it true it was supposed to go to Europe for dog food??
