tax on capital gains while in thailand on retirement visa

about the thai tax policy for capital gains in case of retirement visa.

say i stay in thailand on retirement visa, and have capital gains

from investments in a bank account outside thailand - will

i have to declare those gains and pay taxes on them in thailand,

while i stay in thailand for few years on retirement visa?

Yes,  when you receive your tax return to fill out you must declare that income.  However my feeling is that you won’t be sent a tax return

Despite the "current year income" clause,  in actual practice, it's not really an issue I give any thought to anymore.    I filed a Thai tax return a few years ago to recover some Thai bank interest, and the government tax staff did give me a bit of an examination about my situation and US based pension and investment income.  But in the end, US/Thai Tax Treaty held.  Non-issue, unless you make it one.

He won't get a tax return unless he registers himself with the Thai tax authorities.

I am sorry if I shouldnt have put this query under this topic. But am I obligated to and if so how soon should I file my returns for business income earned in fees in Thailand? My CA in India wasnt quite sure about it. Anybody knowledgeable please assist. Thanks!

Even if registered they are not really interested in expats paying tax. People who I know including me are registered and have tried to pay.

Really? I am surprised. Are you joking? :-) Like you I would like to be registered and pay whatever tax is due so that I have a stake in the welfare of the Kingdom. Honestly. Can you please elaborate what you were trying to say? Thanks!
