PM denies using Mae Hong Son trip for campaigning

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday defended his field trip to Mae Hong Son, saying it did not serve as political campaigning for his ruling junta government ahead of the election.

 

“I come here only as a brother to you. I don’t come here for political purposes,” Prayut said to local residents. “I just want to meet you, who are like family me to me, as well as all of my deputies and ministers.”

 

The one-day trip to the Northern province was Prayut’s first field visit in 2018. Last year, he made several visits to local areas, where approvals for multi-billion-baht development projects were made during mobile Cabinet meetings.

 

Prayut has insisted that it is a method to keep in touch with people and local authorities. However, critics said that Prayut could be using the visits to gain the upper hand in politics while the ruling junta is still imposing a ban on other political parties.

 

In Mae Hong Son, Prayut witnessed a ceremony granting land plots to 120 villagers before visiting development projects around the Pai river basin under the royal initiatives of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

 

Prayut also visited a community operating under the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy and then went to a Pracharat-themed market, where he enjoyed dancing with folk dancers.

The level of political campaigning in the country areas can easily be defined by the number of frogs he kissed.

 

He should let other politicos press the flesh too.  Goodness knows the yellows need to get out there and tell people something.  Have not a clue what they would say to the people of Thailand.

But, nothing probably happened and the money probably went on a sub ! I seriously doubt anyone in the north would vote for him. My wife is from the North, she does not know anyone who would ans she is a seriously educated teacher - not a farmer. trying to be swayed by a bribe

Of course he is campaigning. That's the advantage of having all the guns, tanks and soldiers - you can ban the political activity of your rivals while swanning around yourself on the campaign trail.

 

I guess this is what he means by Thai style Democracy.

It's perfectly normal, and perhaps good for local moral, to have a leader visit and at least give the pretense of caring. As soon as he opened his mouth and said “I come here only as a brother to you. I don’t come here for political purposes,” , it was game over however. Sometimes less is more.

Campaigning? Heaven forbid.

Mae Hong Son is where all the top governmental folks were 'busted' as customers of the bunch of young (illegal) girls for sex........

His real reason for the visit was most likely to partake in the remaining availability of those young girls............

What a 'crooked and self-centered' government we presently have trying to preserve all the 'nasty perks' reserved for the the 'upper class government folks' while trying to convince the 'press' and public' that they are actually cleaning up that mess.............

Will we ever see a 'Thai politician' who displays the truth????????????

They all strive to provide the press with 'fake news' while enjoying the 'immoral pleasures' that they claim to be 'cleaning up'.........

Deny what you like. However it is patently obvious you were campaigning, as seen by that photo with the kids alone.

He's definately not campainging. He's just making good will visits to every major city inThailand before the General Election.
