15 day Visa on Arrival extention

Featured Replies

Hello,

i am from Bulgaria and i arrived in Bangkok (via airplane from Amsterdam)  2 days ago, where for my surprise i was granted only a 15 day visa on arrival from the immigration desk (my mistake for not checking the rules). I had a return ticket for after 21 days which means i will be cutting my trip short with 7 days unless i find a way to extend my visa. I am travelling to Chiang Mai in couple of days and i really want to try either a visa run or immigration office procedure.

What would you recomend? I came on 16th january and my return ticket is on the 6th of february.  I really want to make the best of this trip and not have it cut down with 7 days...

thank you in advance for the info.

I think your best option, really, would be a same day return flight to Malaysia, getting another visa on arrival on your return. However, there is another option. If you visit an immigration office to request an extension of stay (paying 1,900 baht) they will refuse your application, but grant you 7 days to lave the country. This keeps you legal, but you must then leave by 6 February or face potentially serious repercussions.

Thank you BritTim!

And regarding the immigration office “procedure”, do you know by any chance when i should go and request the extention? Of course, before my visa expires, but does it matter if i go last days or now (3days into my visa) is also good? My return flight is officially on the 6th so that would actually be perfect! Im also willing to pay the money knowing that they would grand me those 7 days. Is this rule actually written or does it apply whenever the immigration office is in a mood to do so?

My understanding is that you can apply any time within the last week of your original 15-day permission to stay, and the 7 days will be tacked on to the end of it (thus, changing your current permitted to stay until date from 30 Jan to 6 Feb).

The grant of 7 days to leave the country is automatic. I think it is documented in a Ministerial Order somewhere, but I do not have the text to hand. If @ubonjoe sees this thread, he will probably provide you a link.

It is in the police order for extensions of stay. It states if the extension is denied your will be given 7 days to leave the country.

It is routinely done.

Hello,

im back with an update. It worked exactly as both of you said. I just went to the immigration office in Chiang Mai, in two hours i got my visa denied and was granted the 7 extra days.

Thanks a lot for the tips and help!
