Extending A 90 Day Non-imm "o"

Recommended Posts

I recently had my 30 day stamp on arrival changed to a 90 day Non -Imm "O" in Bangkok. I mostly did it so I can get a Thai drivers liscence. However even though I leave the kingdom every 3 weeks for work I want to get the 1 year extension but I haven't found what is required for the extension in any of the tv posts. Please someone let me know what I need for the 1 year extension or a link to the info.

You could start by looking at the pinned posts at the top of this forum, then do a search on the word "extention' to find the numerous threads on the subject. Then if you still got questions ask.

Happy searching

Really ? Oh why didn't I think of that ? if you can't post a useful reply why bother ? You obviously don't know the answer and neither do I after an extensive search. The rules have changed, many of the threads have yet to be updated. Even some of the stuff listed in Police Order 606/2549 has turned out to be different in practice.

The OP asked for links and thats what he was given to help

We would need to know on what basis he got the Non Imm O to accurately answer directly

Roamer,if you know so much about that then tell us what. Police Order 606/2549 is the latest regulation. Perhaps you could help the OP then instead of throwing flak at those who try.

Ok sorry for flak. In actual fact I don't know the answer to this under the new rules and had myself posted a similar question because I had'nt been able to find a definitive answer after a search. Apologies.

Will assume you have a Thai wife and that was the documentation you used to obtain the change of visa?

Family yearly extension of stay requires verified income of 40k baht per month over a three month period prior to application. That is it other than the normal marriage certificate/living together type things. I expect you will also be expected to have a local bank account and present passbook copies/bank letter of account balance as under the old rules but the exact details under the new rules have not been published so it is best to check with the office you intend to use.

I will clear up some info, I am married to Thai wife and we have a child together that is how I got the entry stamp converted to a 90 day Non-imm "O". What I would like is advice on the actual needs as the immigration department always seem to ask for things not listed.

When I went to get my stamp changed I had everything Sunbelt recommended but immigration asked to see the original document from my embassy stating I was single before getting married in thailand. I've been married 5 years legally so I don't know why they wanted that but we had to go back to the ampur office and luckily they have to keep the statement for 10 years so I was able to get a copy of it.

Also the first thing the immigration officer asked is why I didn't have 400,000 in my bank, even thought my bank statement showed I make over 200,000/month. He did accept it though so that wasn't a problem so again seems like confusion about 40,000/month or 400,000 in bank.

On the Thai government web site they list one (visa extension to support children who are Thai citizens) requirement as "A record of interviewing the applicant " I don't know what that is?

Can anyone plz clarify that for me and give any first hand information on what dovcuments immigration want to extend my 90 day "O".

Thanks in advance.

1. Change of visa are not the same requirements as extension of stay. Change still use the old requirements and the normal method under those was the 400k bank deposit. This is not acceptable for new extensions of stay however. Different rules for different procedures.

2. There used to be a problem with false paperwork and that is why the Embassy paper is now required - Immigration still has there check from long ago on the books and sometimes seems to ask for it.

3. There is no support child or wife provision under the new rules (unless grandfathered).

4. My advise above stands - ask immigration as each office and officer will want to see what they consider relevant. There has just been a large change in rules so what may have been required a few months ago might not be what they expect today.

I believe you want the information for Bangkok so if anyone has done a new family extension of stay in Bangkok please post what immigration asked to see.

FYI, my wife went to immigration in Aranyaprathet to ask what is required to extend my non-imm "O" since we have a home there. According to them I need to show 400,000 Baht for 3 months or more and get a statement from my embassy showing at least 200,000 Baht/year income. So much for 40,000/month, however we have a condo in Bangkok also so I will try and have the extension done there. The problem I see with that is my wifes family book is for Aranyaprathet so I don't know how they will handle us having 2 homes and may tell us to get it done at Aranyaprathet.

What grounds for extension did she request, marriage or retirement?

As I understand the latest iteration of the rules :-

1. Marriage requires 40,000 Baht per month family income (local or offshore) the 'money in the bank' option is no longer available unless grandfathered.

2. Retirement requires 800,000 in a Thai bank for at least three months or a pension income of 80,000 (?? not sure about the value, I'm too young to retire) per month or a combination of the two.

I strongly suspect that if you go back and ask again you'll get a different opinion. It's really odd, the wording of the police order is quite clear in English, maybe it gained something in the translation :o

I suppose all we can say is TiT.
