Pattaya police chief praises soapy massage cooperation but posters slam raids as self-promotion

Police raids on six Pattaya soapy massage clubs left the local chief smiling from ear to ear.

Apichai Krobpetch said that no underage prostitutes were found and no foreign workers were at the establishments.

In addition the managers had provided full cooperation to his men and the local authority and army units who came calling, he said.

Pattaya news said that 100 officers descended on the following clubs: Honey 1, Honey 2, Sabai Room 1, Sabai Room 2, PP and Rasputin.

Nothing illegal was going on at all, said the chief, and what's more all licenses were completely in order. He was pictured with other chiefs.

The raids were part of requests from higher up in the constabulary.

Many Thai posters on the Pattaya News site poured scorn on the Saturday evening raid claiming such activity was a face saving and self promoting waste of time.

Many said ironically "What? Sex going on in Pattaya?" suggesting that the authorities should concentrate on other matters.

Six Pattaya soapy massage clubs had police chief smiling ear to ear.:cheesy::cheesy:

That was before the raids.

Best laugh I've had in ages. The Police Chief has a great sense of humour. and a good grasp of irony.   Love it

"no underage prostitutes and no foreign workers were found" but prostitution is illegal in Thailand or is it not :whistling:

p.s. when the police chief was asked afterwards if the underneath of the beds were checked his reply was incoherent :cheesy:

Not really.

It all depends on who (in individual cases) is doing the defining and identifying:

"The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, B.E. 2539 (1996)[4] is the statute most directly prohibiting prostitution. Under the act, the definition of "prostitution" is "Sexual intercourse, or any other act, or the commission of any other act in order to gratify the sexual desire of another person in a promiscuous manner in return for money or any other benefit, irrespective of whether the person who accepts the act and the person who commits the act are of the same sex or not." A clear definition of the phrase "in a promiscuous manner" is not provided.[5]

Under the act, persons who solicit sex "...in an open and shameless manner..." (a phrase that is not clearly defined), or who are "...causing nuisance to the public..." are subject to a fine. Persons associating in a "prostitution establishment" with another person for the purpose of prostitution faces a jail term or a fine or both. The term "prostitution establishment" is not clearly defined,"

Carry on........but not "promiscuously" or "openly and shamelessly" or "causing nuisance", and don't visit anything that describes itself as a "prostituion establishment".

Obviously beer bars (drink a beer)  go-gos (watch a pretty dancer) and massage establishments (nice bit of muscle relaxing) are OK.

Interpretation, interpretation........interpretation.

Presumably, the "raided" businesses were all warned well in advance of when the raid was coming and made sure to not have any problematic staff or other elements around the night of the raids. It is Pattaya and the Pattaya police, after all.

Some came calling, while others came screaming.

Actually, Nok is Thai from Amphur Prasat, Changwat Surin, so a mate of mine tells me.

Also the carpet does not match the curtains.

Well if they are not under-aged prostitutes but of sufficient age, nor foreign, carry on, business as usual!

Here you go Mr Policeman, can I offer you anything else?

Jesus.  Some of the biggest individual and longest standing buildings in the city and they do stunts like this.

50 Shades of Victoria's Secret.  Look at how police were 'accommodated' there.
