webfact
Twelve Bangkok pubs face possible 5-year closure, local precincts being investigated By Supachai Phetchthewee The Nation File photo Twelve Bangkok pubs may be closed for up to five years, depending on decisions now before the national police chief's or an authorised deputy chief’s consideration, said deputy city police commissioner Maj-General Panurat Lakboon on Thursday. A January 30 meeting would consider what to do about venues charged with illegally operating at night, said Panurat in his capacity as head of a police committee to screen business establishments facing possible shuttering as per the National Council for Peace and Order directives orders 22/2558 and 46/2559. The list of pubs has been sent for city police chief Lt-General Chanthep Sesawech’s consideration before then being forwarded to the Royal Thai Police. Panurat said fact-finding panels were already assigned this week and given 15 days to investigate police officers in nine precincts for possible flaws or negligence in allowing the 12 law-breaking venues to operate. Police recently checking on nearly 400 night entertainment venues in Bangkok to ensure they had proper licences and were abiding by the laws. The 12 venues were discovered as part of that process. The 12 venues to face possible closing are: Vampire Karaoke 105 (Pathumwan precinct jurisdiction); Seheha (Wang Thong Lang precinct); Jeab Karaoke and Bangkok Yai Bar (both under Bangkok Noi precinct); Monti Carlo (Chokchai precinct); De-Cree48 and More (both under Bang Yi Rua precinct); Club Friday (Lak Song precinct); The Fix Bar (Prawet precinct); Nong Neung Karaoke and Moodies Bar (both under Rat Burana precinct) and Sura Bar Party By Mao Santi (Pasi Charoen precinct). I'm sure the panels will find the police officers were doing a fine job (looking the other way).

Almost all the pubs close in the soi 22 and 33 area at the required hour and then the police arrive to check, receive a 3000 bht fee and then reopen until 5 or later in the morning. eliotness
For a country that claims to be one of the leading world tourist destinations such restrictions are stupid.

George FmplesdaCosteedback
The 12 districts don't seem to be in tourist areas as far as I can see (corrections welcome). If that is correct then we are talking about locals. What many people ignore is the fact most prostitution, gambling and late night "entertainment" is 98% Thai. New restrictive laws only serve to allow for more extortion by the corrupt BiB. Until they are cleaned up nothing can change. To achieve that the Army and politicians (elected or not) need to be vetted also as they too are guilty. So, the question remains: Who can stop corruption in Thailand? That makes them more appealing, and likely affordable. Would rather take that tour in they middle of the night, than go to the croc farm, snake farm, gem ripoff, fake Muay Thai fights on a blazing hot day....not even close. The longer you are here, the more most tourists seem like idiots, and the more you realize what a conjob most of that stuff is.
