Thai Visa (not married with kids)

Featured Replies

Hi Forum experts!  Could you please help answer some Visa questions please?

We're struggling to find the answers to our specific circumstances elsewhere....

Here is our personal situation:

-  Family of four: Father, Mother and 2 kids

-  All UK nationality

-  Father would be sponsored to work in Thailand

-  Mother may or may not work (if working changes the approach, then please explain that in your answers)

-  Understand that children would be eligible to join Father on dependent Visas

Could you help us understand our options for the Mother to live together with our family in Thailand:

1)  Get married.  This is in our medium-term plans, but not Year 1.

2)  Is it possible for the Mother to join under a Visa connected to the Father's working Visa?  (we could prove 'Common Law' in the UK but don't think Thailand recognises this)

3)  If 2) is not possible, then what Visa would be best for the Mother?  (greatest chance of success, longest duration, etc)

Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Children can go to school under non immigrant education visa, this will allow the mother to stay as long as she can show 500.000 baht on Thai bank account.

Thailand only recognize legal marriage.

Interesting, does this apply to International Schools?  I haven't seen this referenced anywhere, are you able to provide a link so I can read more?

Does anybody have any other options?

Thanks for the info!  That's certainly an option we hadn't thought of, although the Visa is linked to the school and therefore includes them in the administration.  So a good solution, but not perfect.

Any other solutions forum members?

If money is not a significant consideration, the mother could stay on a Thailand Elite visa.

I've seen the Thailand Elite visa and it's expensive for us.  Does anyone have any other ideas?

e.g. is a non-immigrant visa an option for her and what's the maximum time we could get on it?

You have already been given your options.

Get married or have the kids mother get extensions of stay by having kids at school.
