I'm not sure if this on topic or not here- I guess it is because it's egg on our faces for the dems and so massively disappointing.  Have at it our right wing friends as heads hang in shame at this disgraceful hypocrisy and behaviour from one who was supposed to one of the good guys.  It's a long and upsetting read in more ways than one.

Actually, what's most significant about this article is that it came from The New Yorker. Which is a very liberal magazine. Despite which, they ran an exposé on a Democratic attorney general who has made disguised his interest in prosecuting Trump on state charges. How long to wait until a magazine run by conservatives does something similar? In the case of Trump, a few have actually bought negative stories about Trump in order to suppress them

Nonsense. Nowhere did I blame Trump. I did put the onus on the right-wing press. But given that they are in effect functioning as his right arm, it's not surprising that you don't see the difference.

Why the need to even mention Trump?

Actually it's easy. While Trump is a great President, democrats lost their grip completely. What have democrats to offer ? Hate? Who would vote them? And who will they blame after midterm elections and when Trump win again 2020? Russian bots?

Democrats were wrong. And they learned nothing. Their strategy is a complete Desaster. They don't realize Trump is unique. Sure, you guys can hope. Hope is free. But you will be disappointed again.

However. Up to you. The Red wave is coming. Like it or not. It is what it is.

I think everyone realizes that "trump" is unique.:stoner:

Donald Trump is a unique threat to American democracy

...

To the extent he has views, they are wrong in their diagnosis of America’s problems and dangerous in their proposed solutions. Mr. Trump’s politics of denigration and division could strain the bonds that have held a diverse nation together. His contempt for constitutional norms might reveal the nation’s two-century-old experiment in checks and balances to be more fragile than we knew.

April was best month in history for U.S. budget, according to CBO figures

A spokesperson for the CBO said,

“Those payments were mostly related to economic activity in 2017 and may reflect stronger-than-expected income growth in that year,” the analysts said in their monthly budget review. “Part of the strength in receipts also may reflect larger-than-anticipated payments for economic activity in 2018. The reasons for the added revenues will be better understood as more detailed information becomes available later this year.”

American's number one concern in the 2016 election was the economy. Perhaps the GOP can run on this for the 2018 mid-terms.

MAGA 2020 !!!!!

There was also a huge revenue surge after the Bush tax cuts. Much (most?) of that can be tied to capital gains both for individuals and for companies - particularly companies that were holding large amounts of cash abroad. Wealthier individuals and corporations are cashing in now that capital gains taxes are lower, But it's a one time thing.  And since capital gains cuts and the income tax cuts benefit mostly the wealthiest Americans,  I doubt this revenue surge is going to signify much in the way of income growth for most working Americans.

Poll: most Americans aren’t noticing a tax cut in their paychecks

Two months after Republicans passed sweeping tax legislation, just a quarter of Americans report seeing a change in their paychecks. Unsurprisingly, those on the higher end of the pay scale are likelier to have noticed an increase in their take-home pay, compared to those at the lower end.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released on Wednesday found that 25 percent of registered voters say they have noticed an increase in their paycheck under the new tax law; 51 percent say they haven’t seen any change, and 24 percent aren’t sure.

Old article, but what does the Bush tax cuts and  the PT tax cut  have to do with "April was best month in history for U.S. budget, according to CBO figures"?

"All told the government collected $515 billion and spent $297 billion, for a total monthly surplus of $218 billion. That swamped the previous monthly record of $190 billion, set in 2001.

CBO analysts were surprised by the surplus, which was some $40 billion more than they’d guessed at less than a month ago".

Because it matters where the tax money is coming from. If it's a one time thing because of the wealthiest and corporations paying taxes on accumulated capital gains, then it's a one time thing and next April won't look nearly so good. And the article quite clearly says they don't know what the surge in income consists of yet. So far, they're just making educated guesses.

April was best month in history for U.S. budget, according to CBO figures. Who cares where it came from and they are not making guesses on the figures . The headline says what is says!

They are making guesses of where the tax revenue is coming from. And if you stop to think about it instead of going into celebration mode, most of this revenue has to come from one time sources, Otherwise the figures make no sense. Unless you believe that that American economy is growing at a rate well over 100 percent.

Yes it is the best month. But if it's only going to be a one time thing, based on people and corporations cashing in on the capital gains tax cuts, then it's what economists among others would call a statistical artifact. It doesn't signify in and of itself that the economy is performing strongly. It does so happen that the economy is performing strongly, but until you know what the source of the surge is, you don't know if that's because of a strong economy or just because of a change in tax laws or as is most likely the case, some combination of both.

Good news, now hopefully some the three anti-Trump supremacists(4 now including the Bristol one) will eat some humble pumpkin pie 555

Better news would be if someday you would offer a sensible remark instead of just trolling.

Or even better, the sore losers accepting defeat in the election AND in their all out losing attempt to frame Trump with false news. He's here to stay and time will show he has some great policies that are what the normal(humble) people of the US want.

So, until the end of June, we don't know what they signify.

Sorry, I'm not going to participate in this nonsensical banter with you. Surfice to say it was the best month ever in history according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) figures and that they can only guess where the money came from. Goodbye

To show the difference between the values of the progressive press and those of the right wing press.

There is only "the press". If you can be described as "progressive press or "right wing press" you are in the punditry or marketing business.
