Australian seriously hurt in road crash just outside of Pattaya.

A car crash took place in Na-Jomtien sub-district, just outside of Pattaya on Thursday Night which left a brand new Silver Toyota Altis completely destroyed.

The car was driven by Mr. Terry Crawford aged 40 from Australia who was accompanied by his girlfriend, Khun Simara aged 29. Mr. Crawford sustained serious injury and was taken to the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital. Khun Simara explained that the car had been rented from the Pattaya Car Rent Center.

A friend of the victim was following behind in another car and explained that without notice, the car veered off the side of the road and collided with a pylon on the side of the road.

The air bags inside the car prevented more serious injury and both occupants managed to escape from the vehicle after flames began to come from underneath the center of the car which soon engulfed the front end of the vehicle. Police tell us that the suspicion is that Mr. Crawford fell asleep at the wheel, but this has yet to be confirmed from the victim who is not in a position to speak with Police due to the extent of his injuries.

Yes, I hope their recoveries are speedy, but the Pattaya People report sheds some clues:.......................

QUOTE: So far all the police know is that the car was speeding from Sattahip area – heading for Pattaya at an extremely high speed. When they reached this area, the driver lost control of the car and ran off the road to hit the electric pole, which caused the fire.

So what would be considered "extremely high speed" here? To me that would mean over 200 km/h. What speeds are these Toyotas capable of?

It would be ringin its neck at those type of speeds, they prolly refer to "extremely high speed" which most people would consider a slow and annoying pace for a car and people would want them to get out of the way as they are holding up traffic.

Hope their injuries arent too serious and they get well soon!
