Me and my girlfriend applied for her UK tourist visa Nov 2006 whilst I was in Thailand, she has been accepted but originally when we applied we said that she would come to UK Dec. I have had a small operation over Christmas which I had previously not known the date. Since then we decided to wait until February before she would come to the Uk.

I asked about this when we applied and the person at the desk (who was very helpful) said if we delayed the visit it wouldn't matter as long as it was still within the 6 month period of the visa.

I must now say this is my first post here although I have read many of the topics here and used all of your advice when we applied in Nov. I thank you so much as I am sure our application would have been rejected if this forum didn't exist!

We also only requested 4 weeks visiting in the UK as from all of your advice I knew this was more likely to be accepted.

So now I am about to book plane tickets for the woman I love and don't know whether to book a return flight longer than the 4 weeks, because I want to spend as much time with her as possible and return with her to Thailand at Songkran.

We will legally marry in Songkran and will apply for her to stay in UK for longer next time.

So I have 2 questions......

1) does anyone know if you ask for a uk visa for a certain date but change this i.e. later but still within the visa period. Does this cause a problem when applying in the future?

2) If you ask for 4 weeks stay but your girlfriend stays for 6 or 7 weeks does this effect future applications?

Re your first point , as you have a provable and legitimate reason for having delayed her visit then a brief explanation , documented (cos they won't just believe you) will suffice. Medical problems happen and it won't affect your next application.

re point 2 , as you are only going over by a couple of weeks it won't do lasting harm. I can't remember the original postings so not sure if she is working , but if she is then a picky ECO could ask how she can have yet more time off work. But its doubtful. It could impact slightly on her credability , and you don't want to give them unneccessary ammunition to fire at you in the future. Having said all that a letter of explanation stating that the timings were such that you wanted to return to Thailand together in April would suffice. As i said a lot depends on if she originally said she can go only for a month because of having to return to work. If thats so then you would perhaps have a bigger problem.

Of course you could delay her visit to the start of march and return in April for Songkran , or her come in Feb and you both return late March. That way you would have no problems.

I agree with the opinions above but she must leave before the expiry date of the Visa which is 6 months after the date of issue (and you will be getting very close).

When you make your next application use a paragraph in your covering letter to explain (hopefully with supporting documenst) why you had to delay your entry date and avoid any explanation why you stayed longer than you thought you would (unless you did give reasons why you couldn't stay longer) A couple of weeks over is really neither here nor there and if asked I'm sure you could explain the delay.

As long as she leaves the UK before the visa expires it doesn't matter when she arrives or how long she stays for. However, if the dates and timings are different to the application then a brief explanatory note when she next applies will save possible questions.

Thanks for your advice.

Not wanting to take any risks I decided to keep it to the 4 weeks, atlastaname thanks for the advice about providing proof about why she will be visiting later than expected. I'd not thought of that and from all I've read before it seems beltsnbraces is the way to help get the visas.

I have another question maybe I should put it on another thread but....

I've read the .gov website about applications but is there any other general advice you can give about Settlement Visa applications if we are getting registered as married? I know nothing about this.... should get we registered in UK or Thailand or both? is there another thread you can direct me to, I haven't found one in recent topics.

After visiting in Thailand in Songkran I hope that she can return with me to England. Is this too soon after the first visit?
