What's with all the wasps lately?

Out in Mae Rim I've been hit/stung twice in the last 3 days while riding my motorcycle.

It's been around dusk (Sun down) both times.  Never saw the beastie that got me but the second time (tonight) It stung me on the arm and rebounded off the helmet visor. It sounded big!

The first 'hit' occurred on Monday evening and got me 3 times...chest then twice on the neck.  Again I never saw the culprit.

I'm thinking wasp or hornet as bees only sting once due to them ripping their guts out on initial sting.

Whatever it was I certainly felt the impact/sting. Very sharp and intense pain.  Very dark red point of entry in an ever growing welt.

Certainly worse than say a German wasp or a honey bee.

In future I'll wear a thicker jacket with the collar tucked up under the helmet.  I don't want another sting for a while....especially when riding a bike.

I've been checking the overhanging trees in the area or actually any trees that are close to the roads in that area.

Perhaps there is a nest close by.  Haven't seen any thus far.

Still they are enough to wake you up good and proper after a sting. I would imagine some people could go into anaphylatic shock.

I'm fairly use to stings although I don't like em.  As a kid my foot went thru thin ground into a wild bees nest.

My mum gave up counting stings at 100.  That was just those she scraped off upto my knees.  It was summer and mum couldn't understand what all the tears were for....'it's just a sting' she said.  Then she saw all these pulsating little black dots.

No hospital for me....we were tough country folk. Either that or my folks couldn't afford it.  Probably the later.

So apart from manic drivers on these there roads, we now have to keep our eyes out for smaller pests.

As per the Hill Street Blues TV series....

    Be safe out there

My wasp story - from Canada. Riding along one day, got hit at the base of my throat by something or other. Right in the soft pocket where your collar bones meet.

Few miles down the road felt multiple stings on my belly. Panic brake, off the bike, rip off leather jacket and tee shirt. Seems a wasp hit, was just stunned, fell down inside my tee shirt. Woke up P...ed off, and took his revenge. Must have been quite funny seeing a guy jumping around on the side of the road hitting himself on the chest and stomach !!!

That doesn't sound like much fun....funny to watch tho.

A bit like watching a fellow Army collegue when moving thru the Malaysian jungle and a red ant nest dropped on him....  we pissed ourselves.  He was not so happy tho
