We are going through the process of gathering all the information so we can apply for a Standard Tourist Visa for the UK.

However in the past my partner tried to visit her friend who lives in South Korea and was refused entry along with a lot of the other passengers on her flight.

I know we have to mention this but will it have a bad effect on her getting a UK visa?

It will certainly be something the decision maker will take into consideration when deciding whether to grant your partner entry clearance or not.

She should, as you say, declare that she was denied entry into South Korea but she should include a note, maybe in her covering letter and on the section on the application for any other information, full explaining the reasons for the denial of entry.

Nobody can say how much this will affect the decision, it depends on so many factors, how long ago was the refusal, has she travelled to other countries since, and the the strength of the rest of applcation, the reason and length of her proposed visit and her strong reason to return to Thailand.
