Video: Policeman shot dead as drunk shop owner goes berserk after noise complaint

A police captain was shot dead and another is in hospital after a routine call to a disturbance went wrong in Sri Racha, Chonburi.

A video showed part of the melee as neighbors yelled out, a shot was fired and a man was seen clutching his side.

A Nong Kham police patrol consisting of two officers - Pol Capt Issarapong and volunteer cop Suphasit - responded when neighbors complained that Nirut, 39, was causing a disturbance outside his convenience store at the Torsak Kao market.

He was making a loud noise drinking outside his shop.

When the police arrived to warn him to be quiet he got angry and went into his shop and retrieved two guns - a 9mm and a .38.

As the cops tried to restrain him Issarapong was hit in the left shoulder area and Suphasit in the abdomen.

Sanook said that three shots were fired, one in the air and the others at the two officers.

Issarapong was taken by medics to hospital where he died later. Suphasit is in a serious condition.

Back-up arrived and the area was cordoned off with police not wanting to attempt an arrest as the shooter was armed and still outside his shop. A relative managed to calm him down after some time and an arrest was made.

He had not only been drinking - police found Ya Ice (crystal meth), Ya Ba (methamphetamine) and ketamine in his system.

Nirut said he was drunk and admitted shooting both officers and was detained pending further investigation.

Drugs, alcohol and guns not good mix.

This country has a long way to go before the police are at international standards.

This time the RTP comes out on the wrong end of the stick.

I see 5 uniformed officers at the end of the road at the beginning of the video.

Waiting to be in the arrest pictures I guess..

The guy shot two people, more cops arrived, the guy was still outside his shop, and they didn't shoot him down?  Jesus.  What more cause do they need?  Kudos for sympathy and compassion, but I wouldn't have wasted another minute of the local's time and I would have voted for stopping the disruption.

In the States he would be dead, not under arrest.

What is amazing is his defense will be he was drunk, had a bad day, lost money etc.  And depending on his ability to pay, the "courts" and I use the term loosely will let him off easy.  So many Thais just don't seem to have a sense of history or responsibility.  Tough town sometimes

Thai ego again

Drugs alcohol and guns bad combination but normal for Thailand

Or worried that he might get shot too???

This weasel shot have been shot down immediately. Once you open fire on officers, and shoot two of them for no apparent reason (other than the disgustingly weak excuse of losing face, which carries no weight whatsoever) you are a dead man. At least you should be. He self revoked his right to consume oxygen, the instant he fired that gun for no reason.

Everyone can get their hands on guns in Thailand, except of course farang as they are too big of a risk.

Add some drugs and alcohol, or someone using their horn while driving, and you are guaranteed to have people dying.

My sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, who died in the line of duty!!

This only shows what could have happened if they had NOT intervened!

RIP.

Proper police training to disarm & take down maniacs like this may have had a better outcome in this situation.

It looked more like a pub brawl spilled out into the street.

Like my neighbour once a week. I don't feel safe to complain to him...

Just awful. How can that happen. Yes people are right, a more Western style to individuals like this would be better. i.e. vests, containment etc etc.

Also, somehow every Thai man thinks they are above the law, and the police serves them

Yeah, agreed, but for killing a cop he may also have to do a 2-week stint at the local wat.

In Thailand (as in many other countries) the villans are protected.........

If you shoot a thief /intruder in your house .......YOU go to jail

If you kick an attacking dog ......You did wrong ....

The moment you do something wrong......a lot of rules and laws kick in to protect the rights of the wrongdoer , it's unbelievable .

I would say : " the moment you do something un-lawfull, the law will not protect you anymore, no more rights."The law is for the victims ,not for the villans.

Suspects......are not guilty until proven , or they admit guilt.

The family of the deceased will get compensation from RTP. Will all depend if the family of the deceased also want compensation payment from the killer (if he can pay) rather than having the offender go to jail.

Yeah, and that will be the last time that happens for the rest of this year.

Total amateur intervention again by the cowboys known as RTP. The crook behaved like a pro though....

Amazing Thailand.

This is insane, the plain clothes cop in the blue t-shirt is having a struggle with the guy in the white who is not a cop, punches are thrown, the plain cop goes down for a moment and drops his gun, he picks it up while the cop in vest is trying to keep the guy in white at bay, the plain clothes cop in blue starts throwing punches as does the guy in white, who eventually gets hold of the plain clothes cops gun out of his hand, and then he shoots, don't know where, then there is the copy with vest with his gun in hand to his side trying to get the gun from the guy in white who clearly shoots the plain clothes cop.

Comedy capers these Thai cops, had it been anywhere else in the world as soon as the guy in the white had hold of the cops gun, he would have been dead.

These cops don't have the comrade ship that others forces have when it comes to backing up each other.

Personally never wanted to be a cop, and after seeing this, can't understand why anyone one would want to be a cop in Thailand, apart from the money, money, money, and we know all about that, don't we.

In a society where every Tom, Dick and Harry can easily obtain a fire arm we see:

  • A Policeman shot dead
  • Another fighting for his life
  • A shopkeeper probably going to receive the death sentence

In the UK fire arms are not that easy to obtain and I suppose the nearest I can recall, (this I was told by a actual event witness), electricity company visit a butchers for none payment, "pay or get cut off", butcher threatens them with a knife, police are called, police enter the shop, butcher picks up knife, that was the last thing he remembered before waking up on the floor in cuffs, tasered by both cops, no nonsense, and all still living.
