The black leopard killed at Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi was hit by a total of eight bullets, a forensic examination has revealed.

Police and forensic officers provided an update on Friday on the examination of the wild animal carcasses that were found within the camping area of Italian-Thai Development Plc president Premchai Karnasuta.

According to an autopsy and analysis of bullet trajectories, there were eight bullet holes on its body and the bullets were fired into the front of the rare animal.

The head of Kanchanaburi Police forensic unit, Pol Colonel Sommai Chotikanawin, said the team was conducting autopsies on the wild animal parts seized as evidence in the poaching case against Premchai.

Examination on the carcasses of a Kalij pheasant and a barking deer were still not complete. Sommai said the results of the examination of the animal carcasses would be use in litigating the case.

Maybe someone with more knowledge on firearms and hunting than me can enlighten me.

The wild cat was shot 8 times.

How much time is needed to reload what looked to a bolt action rifle to achieve this?
Was this a waste of ammunition or poor shooting?

What chances the animal was drugged so it could not escape?

8 wounds. Wouldn't that make the hide useless as a trophy? How about the carcass for eating?

This changes the whole case.

The mongul was on a campingtrip to study nature while this black leopard attacked them...the bodyguard shot at it but it kept on coming so all of them had to use their guns to protect their lives. Boy they must have been very scared in the dark jungle with a leopard hunting them.

After 8 bullets (and 25 missed) they finally got him...

There must be lots of cats or they  knew right where the den was.   Maybe they imitated an animal in distress to call the leopard  in.   Probably used a shotgun with buck shot or #2 which would be a good choice.  So 4 or 8 pellets hitting would be expected.   And the shot is slow and solid lead so it only makes small round holes.   It does look like they didn't know how to skin it properly.  Maybe they had spotlight to hunt at night.  Maybe IR night scopes?

I hope they make an example out if all involved and there should be a reward system for the game warden.    Full lifetime investigation of the financial history of the retired park manager.  You know he was paid out of company account so surely there is tax avoidance.    Book em danno.   It's is just amazing how often this corruption at the top is revealed.  I think it shows the Junta has not even tried to clean up things.  I think little things like this will cause a revolution.
