Prawit aide shocked at Teerakiat watch scandal remarks

A close aide of Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has expressed shock over a remark by Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin that apparently attacks his boss.

 

The aide, who asked not to be named, was referring to a remark by Teerakiat that apparently criticised the country's response to the Prawit watch scandal. Teerakiat said he would step down from his Cabinet position if he was exposed to possess an expensive luxury watch.

 

The aide said yesterday he was shocked by the remark and urged Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to deal with the matter urgently as it would affect his boss.

 

Although Teerakiat expressed his personal opinion it would still have an impact on Prawit, the aide said.

 

“PM Prayut as the Cabinet chief would likely talk to the Education Minister over what happened. His remark affects the Deputy Prime Minister who oversees national security. So the premier should give justice to Prawit,” the aide said.

 

Prawit has been under pressure from the public and social media users to resign after he was spotted with about 25 luxury watches since late last year.

 

Prawit told an anti-graft agency that is investigating him over the watches, that they were borrowed from his friends. Prawit said he had already returned them to the owners.

what foolishness; and exactly what form would that 'justice' take ?  the word here is so abused it no longer has meaning;

and obviously it is the job of the premier to hand out 'justice'

It would seem Khun Teerakiat is practicing some Thai Niyom here (doing something good for the country) but because of who is concerned, he is now facing the wrath of the chief. As a falang, I just don't understand. 

'Give justice to Prawit' says this close aide to Prawit. What a pathetic, abject, brown-nosed little crawler!

The only shocking comments are from the man who said he borrowed 25 luxury watches from a friend who is now dead. 

 

Any comments relating to this are nothing in comparison.

Hearing honesty, integrity and the truth for the first time, can be a shock to the system.

yes, it is indeed SHOCKING for anyone in the current government to suggest that impartial justice, transparency and ethical conduct are values to be honored....

 

Surely the Education guy needs to be sacked, so the DPM can go on wearing his (other people's) watches with impunity!!!

 

Afterall, the First Commandment in Thailand these days is -- Thou shall not speak/write/think ill of either Big or Little P.

Teerakiat plans to make a statement in a couple of weeks explaining the statement.  It is now assumed that he borrowed the statement from a friend who has died.

I am so shocked you would say something so unkind about my despot boss. He is only amassing billions of dollars, as is Little P., at the expense of the good Thai people. And when found with luxury goods, they are always borrowed. I must run and tell the little man what this minister said. He is being disobedient. We must treat him exactly the same way a truthful person in the Trump administration would be treated. There is no room for truth in Thai politics. Let us continue to deflect, lie, obfuscate and deny. And use arcane, oppressive and ridiculously paranoid laws to protect us. 

 

Same with the former police chief recently. Oh, why are you making such a big deal about me borrowing 300 million baht? It is already paid back. Why take offense at that?

Affect his boss? A little late in the day to worry about that. Perhaps he should be advising his boss instead of concerning himself with trying to have the messenger shot. 

Have we got this right .? The un-named aide of the deputy P M who has a boatload of unexplained high-end watches far beyond what his salary could afford has urged the top man to give a hearty shoe-ing to a minister who had the temerity to suggest he would have resigned had he been in similar shoes .. Maybe next stop in this opera is saying the watches were really lent to deputy dawg by Ying baby but they actually belonged to the Boss ..

Obviously the education minister should resign. He sets a bad example of putting truth, honour and reputation above other things. What might students think? They aren't supposed to think. A good student is an obedient drone, this makes a good citizen.

Quite correct. The lack of willingness to allow the students to be free thinkers, to be creative, allow them to express themselves, and be individuals is of tremendous detriment to Thai society. It stunts the development of self esteem. Part of the reason why such a high percentage of Thai adults have relatively low self esteem, and part of the reason why face becomes such an ugly issue later on in life.

They should mock him, asking all the time "What time is it?" :) That be funny
