Terrakiat fails to attend Cabinet meeting

Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin did not attend the weekly Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, after he made remarks apparently attacking Deputy PM and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan.

 

Teerakiat went to his office at the Education Ministry and refused to speak with the media.

 

A person who identified himself as Teerakiat’s secretary, said in a phone call that the minister “is not comfortable to speak on the matter and will not talk about it again”.

 

Teerakiat is due to attend a meeting at 3pm at the ministry.

 

BBC Thai reported that at a reception at the Thai embassy in London last Friday, Teerakiat said that he would step down from his post if he were exposed of being in possession of expensive luxury watches.

 

Prawit has been embroiled in a watch scandal in recent months. He was seen wearing at least 25 expensive luxury watches on different occasions. He did not declare possession of assets worth more than Bt200,000 when he joined the Cabinet in 2014.

That would be typical... Toad Boy gets away scott free and this guy, who had the balls (stupidly) to speak up, gets fired...

Good to see any politician, in any Thai government, displaying a modicum of integrity.

 

Expect he'll shortly be promoted sideways into an inactive role, for having the temerity to say, what many Thais must be thinking.

 

If only they'd form an honest political-party, to provide an alternative, to the usual suspects (of all shades).

The inability to deal with constructive criticism pervades the entire Thai society.

A minister says his opinion and immediately gets muzzled.

Just these watch scandal shows

every citizen how ethics and morality of the ruling class is ordered.

Everyone who squeals gets his mouth stuffed. 

He might be in for a grandiose dressing down, but he will be loved by the average Thai.  

 

The rudderless junta had a hard dealing with criticism when things were not so bad.  Not sure how they will deal with things now.  Perhaps it is time to allow campaigning and set an election date.

Perhaps making a play for the next election?

 An honest guy... That would be a breath of fresh air and is sorely needed.

This saga is getting better every time it is refreshed in the public memory .. What we seem to have is a deputy dawg of ahem questionable integrity in possession of more luxo timepieces than an octopus could wear at one time but who canny come up with a plausible tale about how he " acquired " them .. For the master to then rip into a cabinet minister for having the neck to suggest that he himself would have stepped down had he been in dep' dawgs position .. This is great stuff that you couldn't make up ..
