bangrak
How is it possible that Mr Prawit seems not to understand that it are all those successive delays since he was first pointed a finger at about the first luxury watch he was found to wear, which started the public's suspicion about what had happened... It are his quite strong (but few) reactions, and the lack of detailed, and credible(!) explanations, and the nature of the ones he condescended to give, which made 'an affair' from what could have remained just 'an incident', like Thais are, alas, accustomed to see thirteen in a dozen every month, absent from the media and just a few diehards commenting. It is his obvious reluctance to come up with 'the real story', which could have been thoroughly checked, which have made 'a scandal' of it. When this man, together with his 'brother' Prayuth do still not realise that this will definitely NOT go away by itself, and that Mr Prayuth's reputation by now for sure is gone forever, that he is tainted goods... and draw the logical conclusions. Whatever it might be about all that million US$ of bling watches, Mr Prawit must go, ASAP as they say in the military, when Mr Prayuth does not want to lose the rest of public support he might still have, or worse, getting an immense majority against his person, which would end his dreams to be the country's PM till the end of his life. Is Mr Prayuth ready to definitively shelve his plans of 'grandeur' for his personal future, to protect his 'brother' (and more) or not? Or go for the risk to both of them go down the drain of History, amid a deep and heavy crisis? Will wisdom and common sense prevail, or ...?

As we live in the "Information age' all these politicians and their lies, hypocrisy, dishonesty, arrogance and contempt for the electorate becomes more widely available and harder to cover up. And that seems a world wide phenomenon. In the past such things were hushed up with cooperation from media moguls, state information vehicles and state security services. Now it's not so easy. But notice how many states are now trying to attack/suppress/censor and control social media outlets and their content. It ain't about protecting the electorate or ensuring they get the full truth! Mankind (and that word gets the feminists going) has never found a form of governance and state structure that eliminates corruption. And we're still trying and getting nowhere! 2 1

Retiredandhappyhere
This may be hilarious to non-voters on here, but the whole incident is further evidence of the utter contempt in which the Junta and most of the top officials hold the Thai public. They spew out nonsense and unbelievable explanations about corruption in their own ranks and expect the public to swallow them completely. It is just sickening!

Cannot argue that were not shortcomings before 2014, but the prime ministers were elected, and now since the junta will have appointed MP's, they have sunk far lower than the Shins could ever dreamed of. The Junta is using SLAPP as did Thaksin. We can talk about the past indiscretions of elected people, but the junta direction less leadership seems to be molding Thailand into an unfair, stodgy, grumpy paradise for the entitled and over privileged. But wasn't that one of the prime in the agenda on corruption, to tell the truth. 2 wrongs aren't making it right, so what is the point of your comment? 30 Million in watches? Saw a nice one of those watches Benny likes; cost $1,200,000.00. Can't wait to get that ones! So Trya, you are a daffodil type of guy when it comes to Thai politics. Mankind (and that word gets the feminists going) has never found a form of governance and state structure that eliminates corruption. And we're still trying and getting nowhere! I liked this post BB. My reason to link Barnaby was to highlight Thailand does not only suffer fools. When a person steps into the political arena they have basic morals needed to be held to account; if they step over the line they are judged. They are in these positions to do the job without bias or getting better mates rates than the rest of the community. Barnaby also took a 6 month lease of a property from a mate? And your right in the past people were paid off to keep these things out of the press. Thank god for the interweb . So what can we do. Sit here and write, and then be judged highly or harshly. Don't worry about the feminists. I did 3 years doing welfare with some bitter and twisted older females. I have a beard and have so for over 30 years (mainly protection from the sun due to melanomas'); I was typed cast due to my look. But I always reminded them that the female species could be just as cruel as the male species. They attached gender to their quotes which made their statement aggressive. I would remind them to remove 'he and she' and say 'I or them'. They have their faults too.
chama
Delays a response...sort of like the elections are delayed. Next....not his fault for having (wearing) watches, he has absolutely no control. Sounds like the kind of guys that should be running a country. bluesofa
As someone said elsewhere very recently, that anyone trying to understand the Thai psyche needs a crash course in Thai history, and to accept that no matter how much the government may bleat on about Thailand 4.0, the social psyche remains entrenched in Ayutthaya 2.5. An interesting comment from someone who's not a Thai-basher.

The legends and fairy tales which are forcefully propped into the minds of the younger generations to propagate the myth of Thainess, I may guess, as nothing else is, freely, available and widely distributed, to say the least, when not even considered as criminal by medieval laws...
