LONDON (Reuters) - Fast-food chain KFC said on Monday it had been forced to close hundreds of its British stores because of a shortage of chicken.

The problem arose at the weekend after the chain switched its delivery contract to DHL, forcing the majority of its 900 outlets in Britain to shut.

“We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex,” KFC said on its website.

“We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.”

DHL blamed the delivery delays on “operational issues”.

“We are working with KFC and our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused,” a spokeswoman said.

Oh dear   'a couple of teething problems' is a bit of an understatement   :shock1:

Well it is not only me been having problems with DHL.

They cannot even keep a big outfit like KFC supplied, maybe time for them to look closely at the way they  operate.

Sounds foul to me.....

Ah, so the bean counters thought they could save a few quid by changing the delivery company.

How did that work out?

:cheesy:

Sooooo, no chicken shortage, just a company that can't deliver chickens.

yep. The business is ticking along and then some greedy exec or the bean counters decide it is not good enough. And try to move themselves from a cost centre group to a profit centre group.

Yep went really well.  I trust they fired the clown that thought of this?

If the bosses that approved the change fired him/her they'd be in the firing line as well, so probably not.

Gordon Gekko would be happy if he was real ( greed is good ).

Hope who ever drafted the KFC supply contract with DHL had some good performance provisions and damages clauses included!

I suppose one good thing is a certain other fast food chain will see an upturn in business.

Just clowning about with the answer.

I can hear the tearful children wailing outside to their pyjama clad mother - "But Mummy, how will be able to get morbidly obese now?"

This has to be a joke. Who's the CEO of KFC? Guess he'll get his bonus.

The average state of health in the UK just improved slightly.

I don't think Macdonald, Burger king or Wimpy are any healthier.

Never said they were, however one down is a start.

Even if only out of action for a while, it's a very good thing.

No doubt the project management teams involved at KFC and DHL in this logistics transition will be walking though the third stage of this minor disaster:

The Six Stages of Project

  1. Enthusiasm
  2. Disillusionment,
  3. Panic and hysteria,
  4. Hunt for the guilty,
  5. Punishment of the innocent, and
  6. Reward for the uninvolved.

He's perfectly safe.  Everytime they try to point the finger at him someone licks it.

Funny that they are having problems supplying their low quality cancer causing product to so many that blindly eat that crap....haha. Some irony in it all somewhere. Should be banned under public health laws.

Surprised people are not out protesting in the streets

that they can't get their daily fix of KFC

some will have to cook some decent food for their kids

then again maybe not

I can only imagine the bashing that would be going on if this happened to KFC in Thailand.

Pity I'm not there, I'd like to take a McChicken down to the closed KFC drive through and taunt the hungry KFC addicts with the aroma as they gaze sorrowfully at the closed window.

I wouldn't buy a McDonalds burger even if every KFC in the world was closed.
