webfact
About 20 Bangkok squatter houses destroyed in fire By The Nation About 20 houses were destroyed in a squatter community in Bangkok's Phasi Charoen district early on Tuesday. It took firefighters about an hour to control the blaze which started about 1am in houses behind Wat Khua Sawan on Soi Phetkasem 28, Pol Capt Itthiphan Khamthui, deputy inspector of the Phasi Charoen police station, said. Ten fire engines responded to the fire but mobile extinguishers and extended hoses had to be used as the alleys were too narrow for the fire engines to reach the blaze. Nobody was injured and the cause and source of the fire are still unknown. The Phasi Charoen district will provide temporary shelter for those made homeless by the fire at Wat Khuha Sawan. Whatever happened to the small jeep-like fire trucks ordered years ago?
