Redcross is short of blood after New Year, more donation needed

The National Blood Centre is currently short of blood supply of every type after the New Year festival. As a result, many hospitals must postpone the operation on some patients which blood is needed.

During the New Year festival, a lot of people have come to donate blood before traveling back to their hometown or before going on a vacation upcountry, resulting in sufficient blood reserve to be used at that time.

However since the New Year festival, the number of donors has decreased vastly, while the amount of blood requested by each hospital has increased to 2,500-3,000 units per day in every type of blood groups. Thus many hospitals must postpone the operation on some patients. In addition, there are many more patients waiting for blood donation.

The National Blood Centre Blood pleads all blood donors or persons with healthy condition aged between 17 and 60, weighing 45 kgs and over, to please come to donate blood, at the National Blood Center, opening from Monday to Friday, 08.00-16.30, special on Thursday 07.30-19.30, Saturday 08.00-12.00, and Sunday 12.00-16.00.

For those in provincial areas, donation can be made at Red Cross units located in provincial hospitals nationwide.
