Premchai defers his meeting with police to March 5

THE EMBATTLED president of Italian-Thai Development (ITD), Premchai Karnasuta, yesterday again sought a postponement of his scheduled meeting with police to March 5 to hear additional charge of cruelty to animals .

The construction tycoon’s lawyer cited his client’s preoccupation during this period as the reason, Provincial Police Region 7 deputy chief Pol Maj-General Kritsana Sapdech said yesterday.

Although police accepted the plea for postponement and issued the third summons for him to meet officers on March 5, they warned that arrest warrants would be issued for Premchai and the three others if they failed to answer the summons again.

The 63-year-old Premchai and three others were arrested on February 5 for alleged poaching in the World Heritage Thung Yai Naresuan Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province, and were then freed on bail that will require them to meet court officials on March 26. They had already skipped their previous meeting with police set for February 15.

Meanwhile, Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol General Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul said after a recent meeting of the Counter-Corruption Division (CCD) that the investigators had yet to receive an audio clip, which reportedly incriminated Premchai for alleged attempt to bribe officials.

Srivara said if a complaint were formally filed about Premchai’s alleged bribery attempt, an investigation would be ordered, which would conclude in 30 days. An attempt to bribe a state official is punishable with up to five years in prison and/or up to Bt100,000 in fine.

CCD chief Pol Maj-General Kamol Reanracha said sanctuary head Wichien Chinnawong and three officials had postponed their appointment to give information about Premchai’s alleged bribery attempt on March 8 because they were currently preoccupied. Kamol said the audio file of the alleged attempt to bribe would be handled by the Technology Crime Suppression Division, while the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division would be in charge of the overall case investigation.

Srivara said police was currently working on a case of Premchai’s alleged illegal possession of elephant ivory tusks, seized from his Bangkok home earlier this month. They expect to conclude the investigation by the end of March. He said the police inspection of rifles and guns seized from Premchai’s house should be concluded by early March.

Everyone is "pre-occupied" !!

This is why Thailand is 98th on the world corruption charts, level with Zambia ??

I used to live in Zambia and must say, there are glaring similarities :)

The Biltong is much better in Zambia for sure....

Amazing Thailand!

Once again an accused person can be given the right to change when he wishes to appear for questioning or court. Don´t we just love the harsh consistency of the Thai system regarding crimes and law. Still they don´t see that they make a joke out of themselfs every time.

This is to give him time to arrange the people in high places to help him do a runner

because this is not going to bode well for him, does he knows Thaksin and his

sister i wonder? they're preparing the spare bedroom for him now...

If they find a trail of fresh dung along Vibhawadee-Rangsit Rd, they will find that it leads to a private hangar at DMK.

Every cynical poster on social media predicted just how this would happen and only the police seem surprised. Until whatever stupid rule that suggests the police 'invite' these suspects to a meeting is removed, nothing will change.

bet it isn't easy to prove this; likely boil down to he-said,she-said, no evidence;

even so, just interview both parties and anyone they may have mentioned it to and you are done; 1 day

Too many committees doing **** all!

If Columbo had taken this long to conclude an investigation, there would never have been a tv series.

They are surprised when traffic lights change colour.

The man and his entourage apparently had enough free time from their "preoccupations" to prepare for their trip, travel to a national park out in the boonies and spend a whole day and night in the jungle. It should not constitute too much of an imposition to make their way to the police station to hear the additional charges... especially if they're really as innocent as they initially claimed and would therefore have an interest in clearing their names.

But the usual cat-and-mouse game so popular among the so-called "elite" in this country really makes them appear guilty as sin. It's about high time the authorities no longer put up with charades like this, because in turn it makes them look like fools that can be toyed with at will.

In this case I imagine deferrals come at a price which is not being reported in this story for obvious reasons.

All so predictable...

Well you can hardly blame him under the circumstances. Every other rich Tom, Dick and Harry gets to decide whether or not they feel like accounting for themselves, so why shouldn't he?

Well no, it depends if you support the gracious, uncorrupt, country loving, serving the people only junta or the scamming, not real thai, money grubbing lowlife theives that are anyone who objects to the jumta..distinct differences just like 2 ants from the same hole are different..555

After careful analysis his shit was found not to stink,

Walk the walk and let your money talk .

'Premchai differs...', 'differs', sounds so elegant, much more than is allowed by police and justice to play in full the 'two speed system' Thailand is reknown for in the advantage of wealthy and influential persons, that while the small people and have-nots get the full weigh of the heavy system on their tiny back...

  • 2 weeks later...

Are you all kidding?? He's already gone ... out of sight and who helped him flee ? Ummm ... difficult to say ,,, Amazing Thailand for sure !
