Forget 4G - here comes 5G by 2021 and it won't cost a baht more, claims Thai media

 

 

Thai Channel 7 reported that the chief of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said that Thailand was gearing up for the era of 5G communications from 2021.

 

This will mean internet speeds of between 30 and 100 times faster than 4G, said Thakorn Tanthasit. 

 

Thais' internet usage is expected to continue to increase year on year.

 

While Channel 7 said that despite the improvements in speed costs for accessing the internet were not expected to rise when 5G comes in.

There must be a very fast rollout planned here for 5G. At the moment there is no specification for 5G.

It is being discussed presently by the regulators who will oversee it. Not expected to be released until 2020.

 

I saw an article saying South Korea has launched their own version at the Winter Olympics, but that doesn't mean it will be the spec that's adopted.

The question is will the govt achieve Thailand 4.0 before they start striving for Thailand 5.0...

Considering the bidders for 4G have not been able to pay what they promised at auction it may be best to hold 5G until they learn about responsibility.

Perhaps if the contract stated that if they fall behind with the agreed payments then their 5G licence would be immediately cancelled.

 

edit: Thinking about it that's just financial responsibility, not moral responsibility.

No need to remind me, I forgot about that right when they started to talk about that pie in the sky.

 

 

With one of the slowest 4G speed in the world, what's the point of rolling out 5G while the current service is not enough to saturate 4G bandwidth. I hardly can get 50Mbps with 4G+ here.

So a little help here please.

 

Does this mean my Sinclair ZX Spectrum will download faster than on my current Dial Up Connection.

I seem to recall them dangling the 4G carrot in a similar way to avoid rolling out 3G for years.
