Srisaket successfully defends title

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai retained his World Boxing Council super-flyweight title by beating his Mexican challenger Francisco Estrada by a majority decision at the Forum in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

 

The judges gave scores of 115-113, 117-111 and 114-114 in favour of the Thai boxer after 12 rounds of the fight. The victory improved the Thai boxer’s statistics to 50 win, 4 losses and 1 draw.

 

After the fight, Srisaket was full of praise for Estrada, saying he admired his Mexican challenger’s strength and resolve. He also thanked Thai fans who showed up at the Forum to cheer him.

Congratulations on a job well done.  I had it scored 115-113 like one of the judges but could have gone 116-112 as well, as the Mexican threw no shots for the first 7 rounds.  By the time he decided to fight, it was too late, and as an inflexible counterpuncher, he was unable to become the aggressor and go for the KO.  Srisaket is good, but he could become alot better if he improved his footwork, held his hands higher, worked on his jab and threw better combos.  Not many great fighters at this weight but  hopefully he can find someone better than this Mexican in order to have a more exciting fight.
