A woman lodged a complaint with the Buriram provincial justice office on Monday seeking its help after she felt suspicious that the police in Nang Rong district might drag their feet in treating a rape case she filed against a school teacher for allegedly sexually abusing her underaged daughter.

The woman whose identity was withheld for the sake of her daughter filed a complaint with Nang Rong police on February 12, accusing a school teacher of a Prathomsueksa (primary) school in the district of having sexually abused her daughter for two years since she was 12.

The complaint led to the arrest of the accused in a resort in the district. However, the woman said that there has not been any progress of the case, with the police keeping postponing the re-enactment of the offences while, in the meantime, some teachers in the school approached her to have the case dropped by offering to marry the victimized girl. She, nevertheless, rejected the offer.

I don't doubt the re-enactment is constantly postponed if it's going to take 2 years!  The teacher is obviously guilty; why else would an offer of marriage be offered!

These re-enactments are a waste of time and police resources.  I can't see the point of having them, unless they need to find-out where the perp stashed the loot, or perhaps buried a body.  But, I suppose it's like a day out for the BiB, ending at their favourite watering hole.

This may be disgusting, but it's Thai law that charges against a man are dropped if they subsequently get married (as long as the girl is over 13 years old) with mutual consent.

More of a cultural divide between us and them Asian/Western than between rich/poor/educated/uneducated IMHO.

I agree with @fullcave, but thanks for the information, which explain some village marriages, I've heard before about girls being married to their rapist. Actually the offer is also admitting the relationship/rape by the teacher...

This is just mental. It speaks must to the broader problems in the country as a whole, and the massive divide that can exist between the educated/uneducated, rich/poor, urban/rural.

But it doesn't only happen in Thailand, It happens in the first world countries as well.

It doesn't make it right nor understandable, but it does happen.

you sure this wasn't supposed to be posted on the story about the woman throwing her kid in the khlong?

The woman is seeking help for her underaged daughter???

Sadly, the girl is a Thai public school student surrounded by teachers like her abuser and his cohorts.  In that environment, what kind of help is she likely to get...

She was 12 when a 50 year old teacher had sex with her.
