just another day on the roads of South-East-Asia (Cambo, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Phils......)

I briefly lived in Phnom Penh in the late 90's and the driving and accidents were startling even by Thai standards. The driving was clueless, many having no idea what traffic lights meant and bloodied bodies strewn on the road at intersections were an everyday sight. On the plus side, most of the roads were severely pot-holed or just dust tracks. This massively reduced speeds reducing accidents. In addition, car ownership was low with most Cambos owning a Japanese import "Chalee" bike.

I feel, as the article states, that the improving of the roads will lead to an accident rate even worse than Thailand. Cambos generally don't have good decision making skills related to risk.
