PHUKET: Patong Police have launched a search for the person who dumped a dead female foetus in a garbage bin on the main road from Kathu into Patong last night (Feb 28).

Kusoldharm Foundation rescue workers were notified of the gruesome discovery, at the entrance to Soi Khuanyang off Phra Baramee Rd, halfway over the hills between Patong and Kathu (see map below), at about 11pm, explained Maj Patcharee Wongboon of the Patong Police.

The foetus, that of an unborn female estimated to have been in the womb seven to eight months, was found in a plastic bag mixed with other waste. The umbilical cord was still attached.

I wonder does Thailand provide healthcare for the poor Burmese people who help to build this country?  Does these minimum wage people have access to the 30 baht scheme?

If theyc are here klegally (L-A visa, work permit) they can get covered under the scheme but have to pay about 2,000 baht a year for it.

Many do nto have visa and work permit, and thus are not eligible - and often afraid to go to the hospital for fear of coming ot the attention of the authorities.

Tragically, trash bins seem to be the place of choice for unwanted babies!

This is about as sad as the mom tossing her two year old son into a canal to drown.
