Now that I'm 65+ In the U.S., I pay a monthly government-mandated premium of $165 a month  (Medicare + Plan F) and for that, I have 100% free access to any doctor and hospital I want, including the very best private ones such as Johns Hopkins and the Cleveland Clinic if I want. No co-pays, no deductibles. Some Canadians go south of the border for treatments if they're needed quickly rather than wait for months, but of course they have to pay.Hospitals are ranked here so it's relatively easy to know the best ones and the best specialists. It's actually the best government health service in the world--as long as you're 65 or over.  Under that age, well, you're at the mercy of insurance companies, if you can even afford insurance.

Well was there a warning sign at the pool he dived in? If it was in a real hotel they are responsible for a warningsign. 

 

Once in Pattaya i cracked through the poolstairs while getting out of the water, it cut my foot but they even didn't have anything like plasters or so. This happened in the scb-bank resort.

 

Another time in Pattaya i cut my finger badly underwater on a broken pooltile...at the reception i met another farang who cut his foot on the same poolfloor. We did get a plaster though but not even excuses for the crappy pool...that was in white sand resort.

They may have incorrectly prescribed paracetamol instead of asprin which assists after a stroke.

Fractures hairline can be difficult to find, agreed if in doubt a CRT / MRI should be insisted upon at some point especially if you havetravel insurance - maybe when swelling is down. I have found from own experience, typically, that the NHS UK generally ignore other countries diagnosis and take their own action to review. It does sound like it could be negligence but  there maybe other reasons. However one could argue the possibility of a break being exaercerbated or caused by phyisotheraphy or an over enthisatic oesteopath cracking the joints ( or even cracking the actual neck)? THE MAIN THING IS PERHAPS BE THANKFULL TO BE ALIVE AND WALKING !!!???

I didn't read through all the posts, but I have had an accident when I was 17 where I had a massive compound fracture of my arm, 5 broken vertebrae , a ruptured disk in my neck, a skull fracture and a brain injury and was sent home with paracetamol after resetting my arm. They called me the next day to re-examine my neck  but the ruptured disk was not discovered  until 8 years later and the epilepsy from the brain injury was not diagnosed for 20 years.

 

This happened in the US where i had access to "good" doctors. Let's all take things in perspective.

This was nearly over 3 years  ago he was okay departing the Thai hospital

Then visited a hospital in the UK  who did not identiy the problem properly 

now the Daily Mail is involved who are noted for paying for any stories involving Sex  filth Scams ect especially if in Thailand

must have browned them off as could not blame the hospital in Thailand

That's quite astonishing as moi spent 6 months in Singapore General Hospital after breaking C-3 and C-4 which left me paralyzed on one side of the body!

About forty years ago a young woman who was one of my coworkers in San Francisco suffered a broken neck on the job and was told by the staff at San Francisco General Hospital that they couldn't find anything wrong with her. The hospital then sent her home where she suffered a great deal during the night and when her boyfriend checked in on her the following morning to see how she was feeling he discovered that she was quite dead. Bottom-line; I believe in modern medicine, I just don't always trust the thoroughness of the people who are practicing it.

Misleading title... sounds like only the Thai hospital that screwed up and sent him home with paracetamol. In fact, a British hospital provided no better treatment and was the one that simply provided painkillers. The fact that two hospitals missed this suggests that, for some reason, the fracture was not easy to identify. But if you simply read the title of this piece, you'd think that it was only the Thais who got it wrong.

Not surprised,  Back in 2013 I went to a hospital in BKK with a pain in my right leg only to be sent away with some pain killers and a bill for 3000 Baht..  One week later in serious pain I managed to get home to the UK where I went to my local hospital.  I was found to have Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS).  6 months flat on my back.  Never go a hospital in Thailand.

Please reread the original because the medication was not from Thailand, which is what you appear to refer to in your comment.  The prescribed drugs came from a hospital in England.

The journalist and editor must take some of the blame for the confusion here. The headline clearly implies that he was sent home with paracetamol from the hospital in Phuket.

 

As mentioned in a previous post, it seems that the Brits can do no wrong at the moment in the headlines!

This did not happen in a swimming pool - it happened AT SEA, and he banged his head ON THE SEABED!!!

Thai doctors are a disaster (from my own experience). That doesn't mean automatically that all other doctors are any better.
