webfact
Big Joke gets his man - Singaporean kidnapper rearrested in Bangkok Picture: Thai Rath Crime-buster cop Surachet Hakpal yesterday announced the arrest of a Singaporean national who fled Thailand while on bail for the kidnapping of an airline executive last year. Surachet - the deputy commissioner of the tourist police called Big Joke in the Thai media - said that he believed that Goh Teck Chuan had come back to commit more kidnapping crime. He was nabbed in Huay Kwang district of Bangkok. He had fled Ubon Ratchathani last July when he was granted bail by a court in a case where 14 men had kidnapped a tour company boss who is the owner of the Nong Mai airline. A 20 million baht ransom was originally demanded but only 2 million was eventually paid in two installments last July. The kidnapping involved many men in military uniforms claiming they were working on a national security case.
