TOT fibre optic installation

Featured Replies

We just had TOT fibre installed here in Khon Kaen (actually installed by contractors not tot themselves). Its working fine

but was surprised they didn't fit a wall socket or junction box, the wire comes into the house through a hole in he wall and

directly to the router via a join in the cable. The installers say that's what TOT has specified them to do.

Just wondered if any one else know if this is standard with TOT installations? It seems unprofessional to me, but if its normal we will have to accept it.

A join in the cable ?
Photos please.
fibre optic cables need very precise alignment to be joined requires special equipment.

I assume you have a fiber optic router with some optical connector?

In this case there is no need for any wall socket or junction box.

The only "magic" is connecting the incoming fiber cable to the plug which requires special equipment ("splicing").

Yes, this is the normal install.

The outdoor cable is brought inside, then a splice is done to convert the cable to a lighter-weight flex cable that has a connector to slip into the fiber optic router.  The less passive joins to the finished install, the better. Less points of potential failure.

Our TOT fiber is exactly the same. Fiber optic cable comes through a hole in the wall direct to the fiber optic router. Works fine.

the FO cable comes in thru the wall and connects directly to the ToT router by a suitable arrangement that the supplier provides, no junction boxes are needed...and then you can use the wifi or the ethernet cable connection to the router with your device...I've had this arrangement with ToT fiber optic for some years now and no probs...I've got my laptop on ethernet cable to the router and the rest of the house uses the wifi...
