That leaves Trump with a very difficult replacement jobFor a president who relies heavily on controlling the political narrative, losing the person responsible for delivering that narrative is a serious problem. Trump has plenty of loyal voices around him. What he may not have is another Karoline Leavitt. Her replacement will have to deal with an aggressive White House press corps while simultaneously understanding exactly what Trump wants said — and what he absolutely does not want said. And, if Wolff's account is accurate, the person taking the job will also have to cope with the president himself watching from behind the scenes and offering his own running assessment. The White House has accepted that explanation, and there is no proof that she was pushed out. But the combination of family demands, the extraordinary pressure of the job, reports of Trump's frustration with messaging and claims that replacements were already being considered inevitably creates a rather different picture. Perhaps Leavitt simply decided that two young children mattered more than Washington. Or perhaps, after 18 months of working for one of the world's most demanding political bosses, she decided that family was the perfect reason to leave a job that had become too much. He has lost the woman many reporters regarded as his most effective communicator — and replacing his best political translator could prove considerably harder than replacing his press secretary.
