REMOVAL OF RED NOTICE FROM WEBSITE WILL HAMPER BID TO BRING RED BULL HEIR TO JUSTICE

THE Interpol website’s removal of its red notice against Thai fugitive Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya, who was involved in a 2012 hit-and-run road incident in which a Bangkok policeman died, will negatively affect an international effort to bring him to justice, according to a senior Thai prosecutor.

While the Interpol matter is directly handled by the Royal Thai Police, Amnaj Chotichai, director-general of the Attorney-General Office’s International Affairs Department, said the red-notice removal should theoretically have no legal effect on the controversial case.

However, he believes the removal will make it more difficult to arrest Vorayuth due to the lack of international public information now available on Interpol’s website.

“When the arrest notice is on the Interpol website, it informs law enforcement and the public [in all member countries] of the arrest notice.

This makes it easier for law enforcement to get the suspect. However, we have to ask Interpol why it has removed the notice,” he said.

The case concerns Vorayuth, a grandson of Chaleo Yoovidhaya, founder of the internationally-renowned Red Bull energy drink, and heir to the family’s multi-billion-baht business empire.

He was driving his Ferrari when it hit traffic policeman Wichian Klanprasert in 2012 and he fled Thailand after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Vorayuth was last seen with female friends in London last year.

According to Amnaj, the Interpol red notice for Vorayut remains intact because it will end only when the suspect is dead or when the statute of limitations has expired in the matter.

In other circumstances, he said, a court could only order that the case be suspended or closed on a recommendation from public prosecutors, after which police could notify Interpol to remove the red notice.

Earlier, Pol Colonel Krissana Patcharern, deputy chief spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, said various enquiries had already been made about the disappearance of the red notice for Vorayuth from the Interpol website, where it was first posted by Thai authorities back in September 2017.

Krissana said he was not sure what had happened but insisted that the arrest notice remained intact, even if it no longer appeared on the website. In addition, he said, there are other channels for law enforcement authorities still working on the case.

At this stage, Thai authorities are continuing to liaise with their counterparts in Interpol, but Krissana also noted that it was for Interpol alone to decide whether to put or remove red notices on its website.

Krissana argued that the absence of the red notice on the Interpol website would not impact the ongoing effort to bring Vorayuth to justice.

However, he said, Thai police had still not received any information from Interpol on the whereabouts of Vorayuth, not even from those who had extradition treaties with Thailand.

Sources said the Interpol website generally removed red notices only when suspects had passed away or when it received requests from member countries to do so.

Due to Vorayuth’s billionaire family background, the case has been closely watched by the general public, especially those on social media who have expressed concern that justice may not be delivered following the death of the traffic policeman.

Is there any evidence to show it was posted on the Interpol website?  Just curious because the absence of the notice was displayed but never the fact that it was there, if my memory serves me right.

Interpol's current President is Meng Hongwei, Deputy Minister of Public Security of China.

Interpol at fault, of course when have you ever known a person here take responsibility for their actions?

And what exactly is your point?

Interpol have been instructed to remove the notice....a red notice would not be removed without consent of the country of origin of the notice request.

The RTP are likely passing fake news!

And zero to do with a Chinese national being the president of Interpol!

I thought they asek that already, but then I realized that they hadn´t said that the red notice when taken down 100K times yet. That´s the normal procedure here berfore something happens.

555 Back the truck up Somchai

1- if the Thai Keystone cops did their job in the first place & arrested this POS when he dragged that poor cop around

there would be no need to blame Interpol

2- If Thai Authorities were not so easily bought off they would have done their job and

never let him leave Thailand while under investigation

3- If Thai police had an ounce of respect for their brothers in arms they would have made

short work of this rich spoiled brat who blatantly killed one of their fellow officers

This is just another sad example of how bad things can go in Thailand for those on the receiving

(aka:non bribing) end of things

As usual the Thais deflect blame onto a 3rd party. They are never at fault... :saai:

It is a publicly searchable website... and yes he was on the website a few months ago.

Wonder who gets that donation !

Its simple, if they really wanted to bring him to justice, they would have done it by now.

I looked shortly after they first announced the Interpol listing, and he was not on there. They then backtracked and said they were going to do it but just needed to get the translation done.

I am glad that you actually saw it there because I doubted it would ever appear.

"Krissana argued that the absence of the red notice on the Interpol website would not impact the ongoing effort to bring Vorayuth to justice".

Finally, a true statement from a Thai official!

Hard to impact an ongoing effort if the "effort" is completely focused on doing nothing.

I reckon you could make a sizable bet that he DOES come back to Thailand voluntarily. Immigration checks and such are only for the likes of us nonentities...

Interpol Thai office or Interpol HQ?

Thai Interpol would have requested HQ to assist if their documents are in order.Removal would have been instructed by the Thai interpol or otherwise when the person  is apprehended ?However,I could be wrong as usual?

When the Bibs say they have nothing to do with it, the opposite is very likely true. Who else would have a vested interest in the milking ?
