Police in Panat Nikhom have issued a summons for a man charged with beating two children and tying them to a tree outside the school at Wat Thung Hiang earlier this week.

The cops said that the wife - Nang Nee - of Phanthat Chawanthanakiet or "Lung Yong" was not involved.

Lung Yong is set to be charged with assault, child abuse and illegal imprisonment.

Thai Rath said that the children were beaten with the tail of a whip ray. They were tied to a tree for half an hour in front of others as a warning after they allegedly stole 200 baht from some elders.

Police are not worried that the suspect will flee as he lives locally. If the court gives him bail he will be released - if he can't pay or is refused bail he will be held.

The cops assured the public that justice will be done.

Meanwhile, Nang Nee, was called by Thai Rath to give information but she made excuses. She did say, however that her son who was a monk at the temple under the name of Phra Yak has moved away to another temple.

Thai Rath said that Phra Yak had come under pressure from locals after unspecified "bad and inappropriate behavior" while at Wat Thung Hiang.

Many locals had converged on the temple after news of the beating incident broke demanding that action be taken against the family.

'If you are rich it's OK to break the law - we will wai you.  If you are guilty of being poor you'll be jailed until your family can raise the cash to pay us off.'

There you go Thai Police Definition of Justice.

Sangwal Wanphirun, 64, told the gathering that she intervened and stopped the assault after seeing "Ta Yong" and his wife "Nang Nee" attack the boys

Does that now mean Nang Nee can sue Sangwal for defamation?
