The Bible is literature — and a hugely influential one. It's full of stories, poetry, parables, history, moral dilemmas, tragedy, and complex characters. Its language and imagery have shaped English literature for centuries (Shakespeare himself referenced it constantly). Many of the greatest writers in English (Milton, Bunyan, Dickens, Tolkien, CS Lewis, etc.) are steeped in Biblical references. You can't fully understand a lot of Western literature without some Biblical knowledge.
