Exempt to retirement

Featured Replies

Friend of mine, who is also my tenant, has got a small problem....

Went to get his extension based on retirement, but the money in the bank was only seasoned for 6 weeks...so they turned him away.

He has been here for 15 years and has a local bank account (with enough money)

He is going back to Australia for a month in 3 weeks time....during that period his present extension will expire.

My advice to him will be to fly back (to Thailand) on a visa exempt ....get a 3 month immigrant non type o and after that a new extension based on retirement...

Does that sound like a plan?

What are the time windows? From exempt...when to apply for the 3 month visa?   From the 3 month visa....when to apply for extension based on retirement ?

One last question. Since he is flying back without a visa on a one way ticket (In reality the return leg of a trip started in Thailand)...Could that be a problem?

Thank you.

It would be better for your friend to get a new Single Entry Non ‘O’ Visa in Australia. That will give him 90 days on entry and he can apply for a new 1 year extension within the last 30 days of the 90.

He could travel/enter using visa exemption, but then he has to mess around getting a Non-Immigrant Visa/entry once in Thailand. That involves a two visits to immigration to get the visa and a third to apply for the extension. He may also need to use an agent, which adds to the expense, or apply in Bangkok.

Go to an agent problem solved 15 months in about 2 hours.

Illegal probably.

Not possible unless married to a Thai or the parent of a Thai. The conulates have not issued them for being 50 or over for some time now.

And if for some reason immigration check the validity of agents visa it's bye bye don't call us we'll call you (never) better to do yourself and save some money at least you'll know it's legit

It would be best if he got a single entry tourist visa. With a visa exempt entry he would only have 15 days to apply for the extension since he would need at least 15 days remaining on his entry to apply for the non immigrant visa.

To apply for the visa he will need to have a letter from confirming the 800k baht came from abroad.

Requirements for the visa application is here. https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80

After getting the visa he could apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa.

Maybe.  Many things are.

I have some info on this and can tell you it is way way too much money being distributed.

Will never be enforced.

But do what one thinks is best.

last year i arrived on a visa exempt and went to CW immigration office in bangkok to apply for the non imm O.  the two visits to immigration, one to apply for and one to receive the non imm O stamp, are not very time consuming.  i didn't wait more than 10 minutes on either visit.  i arrived about 9:15 both times.

edit:  example of timeline, apply mar 1, get stamp on mar 14.  non imm O permit to stay expires may 31.  apply for 12 month extension 30-45 days before may 31.
