Pattaya in 1979

Recommended Posts

I love the comments in "Austrian-German"

German with an Austrian voice and some vocabulary specific to Austria.

One remark translates like:

"Pattaya developed to a glamorous beach resort"

"The so-called bathing-beach rarely offers a quiet place for romantic characters. It's more like a fun-fair and a market".

The difference is obvious- water cleaner-no overbuilding and chaos like today.  I was there in the early 70s and it was pristine- no jet skis or the other scam nonsense and only  1 western style hotel. Compared to yesteryear- the current Pattaya is horrid!!

The jet skis are just a small boat with an outboard, a sort of crude jet ski. I was surprised to see the parachute thing being towed around at that time....didn't know they were around in the late seventies. Never having been to Pattaya it looks quite nice back then.

What no ladyboys, tattood freelance girls harrassing you. Even those pesky Farangs look a cut above the norm. So all in all Pattaya has gone down dramatically since this was taken. Love the bit where the lady picked up her Lilo and just walked across Beach Road- unheard of today !
