Hi,

I'm sure this is a common enough question so hopefully I can get some quick answers. Apologies if it's all a bit repetitive.

I'm a UK national, UK passport holder, lived in Thailand pretty much the last 20 years, now 57 years old. Had a non-imm B and work permit years back but that was all handled by others. After that I was doing quite a bit of traveling and not spending so much time in Thailand so was able to make do with 30 day visa exempt entries. Now I'm home for an extended period. I entered on a 30 day visa exempt stamp and had it extended at my local, Pathum Thani, office, first for 30 days and then a further 60 days, so I suppose I got 120 days out of that.

Now I'm preparing to make a real visa, non-imm based on marriage. Been married here about 18 years, have two teenage kids. I'm not retired though I'm not working at the moment.

So what do I need? The Pathum Thani immigration office (PTIO) have advised I go to Vientianne and I'm not inclined to do other than they suggest unless for good reason. The biggest problem has been getting information on what I need to take with me and what the process will be, wife and myself have both pressed PTIO on this but their response has been nothing more than to say go do it there. So hopefully I can get some meaningful help here on the following.

1. Documents I need to take. Originals/copies, qty of?

2. Where to go and when?

3. Where to stay?

4. Er, anything else relevant.

Thanks

BN

Bobnuts, If you go to Vientianne and apply for a Non-Imm "O " You Do know that you'll only get a SINGLE Entry Visa from there,Don't You ?? Cost 2,000 Baht....

My Advice is to go to Mukdahan / Savanakhet Apply there & You'll get a Multi Entry Non-Imm "O" Based on Marriage,O.K You'll still have to leave every 90 Days But you just do a quick U Turn & Back into Thailand Cost of Multi " O " Is 5,000 Baht

Docs you'll need to take are....

   Original Marriage Paper + Copy...

Copy of Wifes I.D Card SIGNED By Herself.....

   Copy of House Book....

  2 Passport Photos Of Yourself....

35 US$ Lao Visa on Arrival Fee,Or 1500 Baht if you can't get any US$.....

5,000 Baht Thai Visa Fee ( At Savanakhet ) NO Need to Show Any Bank Accounts......

You Hand them in to Thai Consul ( Before 1130hrs ) & Collect you're Passport with Visa NEXT Day After 1400hrs but before 1630.....Obviously DON'T Start the procedure on a Friday because You'll be stuck in Savanakhet until the Monday ( There's NOT A Lot to do there Either )

They're are Plenty of Small Hotels around 5 Minutes from The Consul,All priced between 650 to 850 Baht...Look at www.booking.com or www.agoda.com   Once You cross the Bridge a Tuk Tuk will take you from there to The Consul & Onto you're chosen hotel for aboout 100 /150 Baht....

Hope This Helps......NK Man...

1. Marriage certificate plus one copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card signed by her.

Copy of passport photo page and Lao visa/entry stamp. Completed application form with 2 photos attached. Download: Vientiane visa form.pdf  Fee for visa is 2000 baht.

2. You will go to the embassy  consular section. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/Xbdvy4z6So82  Open for visa applications from 08:30 to 11:30 am and pick up the nest afternoon between 1:30 and 4 pm Monday to Friday.

3. There hotels near the consular section. Perhaps try the map to locate one. Others may have more info.

4. Lao visa on arrival is required. Fees by nationality here. https://www.laos-guide-999.com/laos-visa-on-arrival.html

Why?

He has already been to immigration and apparently inquired about getting an extension of stay.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Yup, only need a single entry. If I end up leaving the country for work later in the year I'l just get a multi re-entry at the airport I guess.

Once the visa is issued I will enter Thailand and at the right moment, 7:30am on a Monday morning, I'll be off to PTIO and process the 12 month extension.
