BANGKOK — A routine photo op with the cast of a popular soap opera took a dark turn Tuesday when the junta leader joked about beheading one of the actors for speaking supportively of holding an election.

Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, who has previously joked about executing reporters, made the comment to Ponma “Punjan” Imonothai at the Government House after the actor quipped that that he might be caned for echoing Prayuth’s own statements about the return of power.

Is this a time for jokes? I thought right now was very serious and we shouldn't say anything that will lead to confusion.

Joking about killing someone who speaks supportively of basic human rights isn't funny. It's also grossly ominious.

How would the PM feel if someone made a similar joke about him? Would that be okay?

No, that would be sedition and part of a conspiracy.

Yeah,  you could laugh your head off.

Some day perhaps not too distant from now he might find himself standing in front of an execution squad for having committed high treason. Let's see whether he still finds that funny or whether he will have lost his (primitive) humor then.

Oh, the PM is such a hoot!

Just when you think Trump has no peer in unintelligent and senseless quip, in step Prayut.

So many talents. One minute writing beautiful songs, the next minute cracking jokes about beheading one of his countrymen.

That's a lovely picture BTW, both of them indicating exactly what's been achieved by the Junta.

Yes, especially when the applause has died down . . . and YOU tell him you weren't joking and that you won the contest to pull the lever . Not bad, considering there were over ten million entries .

The man actually thinks he's funny. Perhaps he should have thought of a career as a stand-up comedian. Mind you, he does have a stand-up routine he does every Friday.

“You are an insolent person who knows no manners and speaks with strange words that no one understands. Your heart is coarse and unmerciful to your attending servants. You’ve never done any work; you’re so lazy that fur is growing on you. All you do is dress up and sit around with your white face. So annoying!”  Nail on the head.

He's a little gaff prone to be honest, as I guess he finds it difficult to shake off the idea of everyone giving a crisp salute to everything he suggests or says...however silly.

you all don't understand him...

Especially in a country where the Army Chief Chalermchai Sittisart gets away unpunished making publicly threats like this:

“I suppose the key activists already know what they will face and they will not be afraid of it. Eventually, ‘somebody’ will take care of them backstage anyway.”

General failure in full swing.

It would be the only jump he'd ever get if he wasn't in Power ...............

Force and violence would be funny from him if he did not attain his position by force and it was not his only shtick.

There maybe a lot of beheadings if this were to become the policy.

When he looks at his frog, it reminds him fondly of his sidekick the watchman Prawit!
