I just posted about my last two SETV from Phnom Penh.

This time around I’m going to try Savannakhet to see if the process is easier. Does anyone have any current info on the process?

It would be great to avoid hassle with creating unwanted flight tickets and having to give copies of my bank statement (purely for privacy/security reasons).

I assume I will make this Visa on my own at the consulate, without an agent, although I guess there may be options at Mukdahan/Savannakhet to ease the process.

My original plan was to enter Laos on my motorbike at Chong Mek-Vang Tao border and drive up to Savannakhet, but unfortunately Laos just closed that option for solo riders.

You need a flight ticket (rumoured that they might accept bus ticket) and bank statements at Savannakhet. If you want to avoid hassle you're better off going to Vientiane because they don't require either.

Thanks for the quick feedback, much appreciated.

Any idea how long it takes, is it an apply in the morning, collect the next day type of place, or apply any time and just wait to hear back?

apply morning and pick up next day afternoon.

It super easy and quick if turn up 3o to 45 minutes after the opening times to avoid standing in the initial queue .

Sorting a flight ticket and bank statement pretty easy can edit bank numbers via pdf editor for bit of security .

bank docs ideally need your name, if no name they do ask for card or bank book linking you to that account number .

Make 20 minute effort preparing docs to their liking in pdf editor and it a no hassle setv run and pretty pleasant trip .

Mandalay a nice trip for setv, friendly thai consulate and good location, viaduct railway reason enough do it at least once .

Apply in the morning before 11:30 and collect the next day after 13:30. If you apply on Friday you collect the passport/visa on Monday.

If you go to Vientiane avoid Monday and Thursday as the Bangkok visa runs are there on those days.

Many thanks for the extra info.

My main issue is with the flight out, it’s just a waste of money.

If I book a cheap flight, it’s unlikely to be refundable and very unlikely I would get a chance to use it. So I eat the cost.

If I go for refundable it will be expensive which will drive up the credit card fee and probably other non-refundable fees.

It does not have to be a flight, train to malaysia would do, easy enough rent a flight booking ticket for 10bucks if you can't manage make one yourself .
