There is a waspish looking bug here, black body, about as big as a wasp too. Builds little mud nests on the walls to lay eggs in and incubate the young.

One bit my dog once and I found out why it was called the crazy dog bug, she was like a rabid dog, foaming at the mouth, jumping around, snapping at the air, whining, restless. Very scary. It lasted about an hour or so, maybe less (seemed like a long time tho) and then she was fine. Now she is very paranoid about flying bugs and kills every one of them she can get her teeth on.

What is this bug's latin name? Does it give people the crazies too?

That is taen แตน in Thai South. Not the same bug, I am afraid. That one is nastier than the Maeng Mah Bah.

I know about Mah Raah ,a kind of wasp

Family Vespidae

-ต่อหัวเสือ-Tor Hau Suer (Vespa orientalis, Vespula spp.)

-แตน- Tan (Cepahlonomia, Scleroderma,Epyris spp.)

-หมาร่า Mah rah (Polistes fasculatus)

PS...The foto on on the post above maybe "dtan" .. i just googled it with the keyword "mah raah"

I'll try to get a pic tomorrow bambi. Have you never heard of a bug that makes dogs crazy when it stings them then? It was quite freaky, to be honest, I've never seen anything like it. If my husband hadn't been so calm I would have been dashing for the car to run to the vet clinic!

emm... nope... but i can imagine

My opinion theories

1 - animals/human get allergic with the protein in that insect's poison from string

2- the poison has effect to CNS system (as organo-phosphate makes the prey gets foamy salivation , seizer , pee ,poo,vomit...(BTW i dont mean this poison is Org -PO4)

The Maeng Mah Bah builds mud nests, like this one, and is all black, no stripy yellow bits at all.
