A short clip posted on Facebook showed one of Thailand's most followed Westerners imparting some Songkran humor to his many fans.

Dressed in the blue flannel garb of a Thai farmer with a garland round his neck Udom Suksanaih grabs his gold necklace dramatically and gives out his message.

The language was a bit beyond our translating team who understand Standard central Thai so we contacted Udom - birth name Allen Long, a US citizen - who told Thaivisa:

"During the Northern Thai New Year we Northern Thai bring out our necklaces and rings...not really for any other reason other than we're worried that people won't know we have them!"

The tongue-in-cheek humor was followed by a raucous laugh that caused many comments from his band of followers who number 86,000 plus on Facebook.

Added Udom: "The humor is primarily in the fact that a farang is saying it in such a distinct Northern Thai accent".

Many comments from Thais showed that they appreciated the New Year humor.

Udom, whose parents are US missionaries, went to primary school in Thailand and was recently featured on Thaivisa after he thanked his folks for bringing him to the country on a Thai television show in which they all won a stay at a spa.

Udom, who has many stories to tell about his efforts to get Thai citizenship has agreed to give an interview to Thaivisa's Sunday columnist "Rooster" that will appear after the Songkran celebration.

I know some Thais who do the same thing either wear or put valuables in their pockets when they go out to play

when I asked innocently why they replied...

because if you don't show you've got them on your person while your out playing your house will be burgled.!!!!
