  • They should be happy with that. It is under the daily average.

I kind of agree with you, though it is a very sad situation, when we consider 39 people dead in a single day, to be something positive. RIP to those who died. I do hope the final tally will be lo

  • Actually I was being sarcastic. Even though below the daily average, it is nothing to be proud of.

sorry for you and the families loss, did they think ,had he worn a helmet he would have survived??

I was sprayed by a few kids with water gun while riding my bike today and it shouldn't have started today.

Don't these kids know that it's dangerous to shoot at riders which may cause accidents?

These water spraying has gone out of control when it's supposed to be just spraying a few drops of water on the head..

Your Mrs cousin could afford a mobile phone and he could afford the fuel to run the bike but he could not afford about 20baht to at least buy a tailight globe so that he could be seen in the night and now that lorry driver is paying for your cousins mistakes and at a guess I would say that the family will take the money instead of doing the honest thing and saying to the lorry driver "this was not your fault it was the fault of our relative for not making sure that he could be seen of a night"

Of course they know they can cause accidents. That's the whole point.

A lot of people, and specifically motorcyclists, are probably staying at home.

Or p..ssed off up to Issan.

Here are some stats for you all.

1. None of them can drive a vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.

2. Most of them will get drunk and get on or in a vehicle.

3. Many of them will die and get badly injured.

All of them deserve #3 which is what you get for #1 and #2.

I have been out on the roads round Pattaya / Jomtien and Satahip and over the last 3 days the madness of the madmen and women has gone up exponentially.

Accidents are avoidable - moronic drunken selfishness on the roads and resulting carnage sadly are not.

Best of luck to all TV readers over the next week or so coz we are all going to need pots of it.

Yes, let's get this started. Go Thailand!

1). Agreed.

2). Agreed.

3). Agreed. Sad thing is when they take others with them. Or worse, kill, injure or permanently disable someone and they survive without even a scratch.

It is not only Thai's either because there are a hell of a lot of farangs that are just as bad and as stupid as the Thai's

one reason the death toll goes down during Songkran is because the roads are total gridlock.

the only time the homicidal manics are forced to slow down.

maybe more prayers will fix it, Monks can do.

I'm in Issan, food and grog stocked up, car keys stored until Tuesday, I won't be a statistic.

Who are "them"? Do you mean drunk drivers in Thailand? (In which case point 2 is redundant) Or do you mean bad Thai drivers? (In which case point 1 is redundant) Or do you mean all Thai people? (Which means you're predicting that 34.48 million people will get drunk?) :saai:

34.48 million? Yeah, back in about 1972. It's over 69 million now.

Staying home so I'm not really worried, unless a motorbike comes shooting down the wrong side of the street and I forgot to look left, which is always a possibility, when I'm drunk.

Remember that the 39 are only those that have died at the scene, it does not include those that die on the way to hospital or those that die in hospital

I am not interested in bar stool talk but I do know that as people die a couple of days after the accident then those numbers are added to the number that is recorded to those on the day of the accident the same as what was done over the 7 dangerous days over the Christmas-New Year Holiday period it is the same in Australia, the first figures that are released are those that have died at the scene of the accident because they come direct from the police report at the scene of the accident and the other numbers come from the hospitals and reported to the police so that the records can be updated for that particular accident or in the case of this 7 day reporting they can be added to the day of the accident

Fake news ?

Here is a breakdown and a comparison for the last 5 years that I have done of the road carnage figures on a daily basis with a comparison total for the 7 days.

Please note, all deaths are recorded regardless of whether it happened at the scene of the accident or not. If someone died a few days later in hospital, they are added to the tally, as long as it is within the so-called “7 dangerous days”.

Please note, that anyone that dies after the 7 days from injuries received during the 7 days will not be added to the total figures. This has been the practice for the previous years as well. So anyone who was injured on day 1 and dies after Day 7 will not be include in the 7 day figures.

The information for the previous years figures on this chart has been acquired from richardbarrows.com

The information for this years figures are from various source's including The National, Thai PBS News and ThaiVisa News

Well they did manage an increase of 6 deaths over the same day last year. Obviously they have learned what you'd expect them to learn! SFA!
