observer90210
What a pair of stupid girls....getting involved in drugs that too, when abroad ! They will unfortunately learn in respecting the law in a ruthless Thai jail, far away from the European 5 star Criminal Justice system.
worgeordie
So the Police want 640,000 THB off them, then they will return their passports ?,is that what the article is saying, then hope they bugger off ,save a lot of paperwork. regards Worgeordie
jenny2017
There must be an emergency contact number, here's the embassy's Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/NorwayInBangkok/ It sounds weird to ask for so much money. Seems they'd let them go if they pay before it's getting to court. I bet GoFundMe will be involved now..3...2...1..
ChidlomDweller
Someone with the tech savvy please set up a crowdfunding page! My heart bleeds for the girls as well as for the police for having to live in uncertainty they'll get their money. Boy, those really deserve each other! Now they want to make big money and share. Norwegians are sooo rich. 7 minutes ago, jenny2017 said: Seems they'd let them go if they pay before it's getting to court. Which is the norm for many petty crimes, traffic accidents etc. No idea whether this is acceptable for drug offenses. If they insist on court they will be trapped in the country for months or more. Passports confiscated, red flag at immigration.

It's still in the hands of coppers and would they pay now and of course leave the country immediately, I don't think that there'd be any problems. Good Songkran money, but only GFM seems to have that potential. But it would take too long, these things must be solved within a few days only. I guess they can refuse to pay and let it go to court, but if it was me, I would be very happy to pay instead of going to court in Thailand for a class 1 drug. Old Croc
There doesn't seem to be any media coverage of this and the OP, from another Province, hasn't provided a link. Perhaps he knows the people involved and has inside knowledge........................ This is when the OP posted again with a link from Norway and answered some of the questions I was about to ask.. The bribe money mentioned seems very high, perhaps just a starting point?

pagallim
OK, I have phoned the emergency number (in Norway) to their consular officials, detailed the circumstances and passed the web page details to them (they were reading what I was reading). What is not satisfactory is that there is no emergency contact detail in the Norwegian Embassy in BKK. For what appears to be a typical Thai Police 'sting' operation to extort money from vulnerable people (forget the rights and wrongs of what they were doing) they need to have representation either selected by themselves (unlikely) or through their Embassy. Hopefully there will be a few levers pulled and stop this crap from going much further. https://www.learn4good.com/travel/norwayembassy-consulates-thailand.htm
