BANGKOK, 17th April 2018 (NNT) - The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee believes a high number of applications to set up new political parties could be a good sign.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said today that more than 90 political parties, have submitted applications with the Election Commission. Such a high turnout is beyond expectations and a good sign.

Mr. Meechai added that the arrival of new parties with unconventional names should mean more alternatives for voters although it remains to be seen how they will fare in seeking public support.

The CDC Chairman believes that voters will now focus more on the quality of the parties they vote for, while anticipating more newcomers at the upcoming election.

He added that as the new election system calls for only one ballot for each voter to elect their preferred election candidate, party and prime ministerial candidate, the public is likely be more politically active than before.

A good sign that the vote will be split enough so an "outsider" PM can be installed. All part of the road map that has the current leadership legitimized be a carefully crafted set of laws, political environment, timeline, and players. If as much care was put into running the country Thailand would surely be a world power by now!
