Road accidents during the past six days of the long Songkran holidays from April 11-16 have claimed the lives of 378 people, and injured 3,575 others.

Only on Monday April 16, 49 people died and 464 others were injured in 426 road accidents which happened in a single day yesterday, according to the Road Safety Centre.

The centre spokesman Lt Gen Thanes Kalapruek said motorcycle crashes topped most accidents yesterday or 81.80%. Speeding was blamed as the major cause (28.47%), followed by drunk driving (27.28%), he said.

Thailand just needs a government that actually cares about its people.

So...you mean, all the "vowing" and "putting measures in place" and all the forbidding fun...all that did not help, without a) real education and b ) enforcement of the laws?

Or will we get fed some BS in a few days, about how the rate of deadly accidents decreased by 0,7 %?

They've managed to hit a daily average of 63.........who said Songkran was safer than ordinary days?

population control, more job openings soon, win win

TIT

How does the stats compare to previous years?

I know accidents and deaths during Songkran increased this year, but are there any statistics on the number of tourists coming to Thailand this year compared to last year? Also, how many more motor vehicles are there on the road in 2018 compared to 2017? Certainly, these factors must play in any kind of analyses on safety.

Congratulation ist still - 8 compare to the year average...

speeding drivers 28.47%

drunk drivers       27.28%

latest DD's go all out to get first prize.:partytime2:

That and expats coming to Thailand because it is different to their places of birth and then complaining because it is different.

On the bright side there is always next year if there is time enough to prepare and we can look forward to the new year slaughter nearly upon us .

YEA ! Thailand number one,Thailand number one.

How is the statistic logged if they were speeding and drunk. :whistling: Bl??dy ignorant, irresponsible muppets, when will they learn, and to think Thais get upset when they are called a 3rd world country...

Horrific number of lives lost this year, despite all the dog an pony shows by the government on all the preventative measures they had in place. The lucky amulets must be on the blink, and the chicken essence obviously isn't doing the trick either.

Oh that's a wish list and a half, but I applude your thoughts and agree. Just never going to happen while some cannot live without power.

I'm sure they will all diligently go to the nearest temple and swear an oath they'll never do it again..

No real harm done... carry on carnage!!!

Just waiting for the next festival & figures!!

It is 418 deaths today and 7% more than last year BUT the PM is satisfy with all the agencies involved. So let's expect a record breaking next Songkran that will please him enormously.

Next year we're swopping water pistols for cruise missiles, less deaths and injured involved.......

But they do.  How else do you cull overpopulation? There are more than 300 deaths on the roads a DAY in China. Imagine saving all these people.

he WILL how ever BAN THE SODA ADS.

Until Thais learn respect for the law then it is like pissing in the wind trying to control road deaths. But in some way i cant blame the thais drivers when you have a useless police force trying to control the situation who are more interested in looking good in their uniforms and posing for pics.
