Five senior monks implicated in temple fund scandal

Three members of the Sangha Council and two other senior monks have been implicated of alleged involvement in temple fund embezzlement by the National Office of Buddhism.

 

NOB director Pol Lt-Col Pongporn Pramsaneh has already lodged complaint to the Counter Corruption Police Division (CCPD) against the five senior monks for alleged embezzlement of fund for renovation of religious schools at three temples in Bangkok.

 

The five senior monks include three Sangha Council members namely Phra Promdilok, abbot of Wat Sam Phraya; Phra Prommethi, assistant abbot of Wat Samphanthawong; and Phra Promsit, abbot of Wat Saket; Phra Methisuthikorn, assistant abbot of Wat Saket; and Phra Vichitthammaporn, assistant abbot of Wat Saket.

How unusual in Thailand.

I'm shocked, that this sort of thing could be done by Buddhist monks.

And  the  gullible still keep on giving, every village in Thailand like  rabid sheep they give and give and give, if  all that money was put into the hospitals then they could have a much better life, instead lets  all "believe" in the fantasy.

Five bad apples in this story, but how many monks are there in Thaland.  I know and have

met many good monks. There are some who dedicate their lives to the monkhood. Some

have built temples so they are not all on drugs or are bad.  It seems that non Buddhist are

great at dissing the monks and Buddhism in general.

And so there will need to be replacements appointed to the Sangha Council? A few more...malleable people? A few more... supportive people? A few more... like-minded people?

 

Perhaps I am overly suspicious... or perhaps not.

 

They have converted from buddhism to worship the gods of money

and material things, the latter are a lot easier to follow and not so

sticky as the the former and let's face it, lots more fun... 

Was going to say they would be transferred to inactive posts, but monks these days don't seem to do a lot anyway- unless its theft, drugs, alcohol, sexual abuse or shopping for the latest mobile phone at the BIg C.

Fast and loose with the word 'Buddhism'. What is practiced here isn't Buddhism. It's just called that. Golden shrines might look pretty, but it's the opposite of what Buddhism is. 

 

You don't need religion to have a moral code. You just need common sense. I'm an atheist. I'd like to think I have a good moral code. My reward? Well, when I die I'll be worm food, so I guess I'm not seeking any reward. Just being good for the sake of decency. 

Looks like its better to be a monk than a cop these days, much less stress involved as well i guess

Well how very bizarre !!

 

Only a couple of weeks back I commented on another thread related to monks behaving badly, in my comment I happened to mention embezzlement and all the other nasty little tricks that they get up to, believe it or not the post was removed because someone thought I was trolling, yet here we have a national broadcaster (Thai PBS) & a respected ? English speaking national newspaper highlighting the very same issues, I can't believe that these issues are allowed to be published on Thai Visa let alone commented on??? 

No surprise at all, ANYTHING involving state money,donations,

is going to have an element of corruption involved,they do it

because they can get away with it,nobody seems to be doing

any checking where the money goes,the checkers are most

likely to be getting a cut to ,to turn a blind eye.nothing is going

to change anytime soon,

I read the story about corruption concerning these men. It is not difficult to believe that an autonymous, self policing, opaque organization could have many opportunities for corruption.

 

I don't know the nationality, eye color,  religion or beliefs of those "dissing" a seemingly dysfunctional and money oriented group such as the accused.

 

"Where there is smoke, there is fire", comes to mind.

Better if they built hospitals with that money instead of palaces to stupidity, but  guess stupidity rules and "pays  well"

Let me guess only the "deeply religious" and those having " faith" can ever know................. Its the worst argument they produce........................I cant know because I "dont believe" with "believe" being the word.................just add with "total lack of evidence" and it all makes sense though, oh and "get this" I must "respect"  it,  hilarious. well in that case my "god"  is Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout and he/she/it has  as  much if  not more credibility than any other religion and dont forget  to respect my "belief"

You're a straight shooter Geezer but I have to tell you, that dog don't hunt since the advent of libraries and much later, the internet and Google.  Pillars of religion and cults are in the public domain and easy to examine.  You don't have to be "in it" to know it.

However, certain religions make the self-evident assertion that man is, by his very nature and (intelligent) design, easily corrupted.  So they ought to embrace the implication of the OP as another proof positive, rather than attempt to diminish and rationalize it away.
