Phone charger / charging question.

I recently bought a new android phone.  Make and model is not important, but happy to post it for anyone interested.  It's a great phone and I have no complaints. 

 

It came with a fast charger, but this was the only charger.  There was not two chargers, fast and normal, or one charger with two USB ports, one port for fast charge, and one port for normal charge.  Just the one fast charger.

 

I was always under the belief that a slow trickle charge was better for battery life, and the higher amp fast charging would reduce battery life, albeit, probably at an insignificant amount to worry about.

 

I have used the factory supplied charger every time, except for one time when I used a generic brand slower 0.5amp charger, and this worked fine. 

 

I have a few questions. 

 

First is, should I consider using the slow charger for everyday use and the factory fast charger for emergency fast charges, or when traveling? 

 

Second question is, just how bad is it to use the factory fast charger, almost on a daily basis? 

 

Finally, are the charging, or sine waves, that come out of a cheap generic charger also the same as the factory charger, or any other charger for that matter, and the speed of charge simply comes from the amperage difference?  I suppose what I am getting at is, can using another charger do any damage to the battery?

The charging voltage for most (if not all) Android phones is 5 

 

It is charged using DC (no waves) but the important factor is the current, the supplied charger will be matched to the battery characteristics in your phone, so if it is deemed a fast charger that is how it is designed.

 

If you use another charger, check the output voltage and current, they MUST not exceed the values stamped on the supplied charger, you won't damage your phone using one, but it won't charge as efficiently.

 

Lithium batteries do not have a memory effect and they are best kept charged between 40 and 80%, no deep discharges are needed and a full charge can stress the battery a bit.

manufacturers always recommend using the supplied power adapters so if it shipped with a fast charger then that will be fine for continued use.

The fast charger really charges the the battery fast, and I mean, FAST.  So much so, I made this thread about it. 

 

I have continued to use the factory fast charger, but still wondering if regular use of a standard slow charger wouldn't be better for long term battery life, only using the fast charger when absolutely needed.

Most of the latest phones come with a fast charger.  My most recent phone was the first time I got to own and use a fast charger and I was so surprised how fast it charged that I started this thread.  Charging so fast, I thought maybe it can't be good for the battery in the long term.

 

Due to some replies to this thread, I have kept using the fast charger and have not seen any degradation in battery life.

 

I have not tried the fast charger on another phone.  Maybe it would charger that phone quickly as well, or it could harm the battery.
