We are in the process of putting together a tourist visa application for a Thai national. I am a bit confused by the fees. We have to pay by Banker's Draft and the cost is 70 Au$. There was a currency converter on the website which calculated that to be 2150 Thai Baht. Is that a set rate or does it vary with the exchange rate? I also read that if you use the VSF agency (which sounds like the easiest option) you have to pay a 400 baht + 7% service fee - do you include that in your Banker's Draft or do you have to pay that in cash? On the general Australian Visa site it tells you to submit a birth certificate with translation if necessary, but on the Australian Embassy Thailand there is no mention of birth certificates - do Thai nationals need to submit them?

Thanks for your help.

The cost is $70AUD for a tourist visa this is payable by bank draft at the VFS Office (this goes to the Embassy)...They will provide it for you there....the service fee of 428 Baht is payable at the VFS office This is a separate payment (payment for the VFS service) and can be paid in cash...try and have the exact money on you.

A birth certificate would generally not be required unless there is a question as to the applicants age.

Hope that assists

Hi

You can pay both amounts by cash at the VSF - you do not need a bank draft

I believe that they want this in Thai baht

If you ring them they can give you the exact amount

Cheers

I have heard this from one source about 2 weeks ago....wasnt prepared to make a concrete statement till I had confirmation from others...if he turns up with Thai baht and they want a cheque then it can be done....if they accept cash then it can be done also...

Would still advise that he keeps the two amounts separate and have the right change for both payments though.

So correct weight for the visa fee and correct weight for the service fee. This would avoid confusion and save the need for the staff to look around for change.

I gave the VFS girl 450 baht for the fee and she would not let me leave without giving me the change, even tho I told her not to worry about it. She took the change from her own purse in the end.

I was at the office last week and paid in Thai baht for a tourist visa.

It was 2150 baht for the cashier and i think it was 450 baht for the clerk.

I am not sure why the charge is seperated seems a bit cumbersome.

They had plenty of change so no worries there.

The 2150 accompanies the application and goes to the Embassy.....the service fee is kept by the VFS office for the sevice they provide. The VFS is not a government office but an outsourced or private company.

perhaps and I am not sure...the cashier could be an Embassy employee...not a VFS employee....

It could be that it is kept separate so that there is no mix up...and each get their own fees.

Understand what you are asking...but it is their system and we have to play along.
