I'd like to ask each of you what he thinks every nation's most famous and iconic dishes are, best of course to add the delicious dishes that are famous in your own country!

 

I insist on "dish", i.e. something prepared by a cook shortly before being consumed, so camembert or vienna sausages do not qualify.

 

Here is what comes to my mind when thinking about food from some countries, add your own!

 

France: Cassoulet, Crêpes, Boeuf Bourguinon, Gratin Dauphinois

Germany: Currywurst, Nürnberger Bratwurst, Schweinshaxe, Kasseler Braten, Kartoffelpuffer, Rinderrouladen, Frikadellen, Königsberger Klopse

USA: Steak, Burger, Ribs, Cole Slaw, Chicken Wings

Italy: Pizza, Pasta (Bolognese, Carbonara...), Lasagne, Tortellini, Ossobuco

 

Chips with curry sauce, that's what them Northerner's eat in the UK.

 

 

Got to be the full English...

Roast Beef, Yorkshire Puddings, Roast Potatoes, Cauliflower Cheese, Carrots & gravy.

Delicious!

 

Need a special sub-category for the US for New York: New York pizza (a distinct entity), New York bagels, NY cheescake etc.

 

A case could also probably be made for other US regional sub-categories like Cajun dishes, Tex-Mex.

 

And do not overlook apple pie!!

 

UK: a full fried breakfast (don't forget the fried bread), fish & chips, Sunday roast... IMHO.
